2L diesel

found a 2L diesel in the craigslist...thought about getting it and swapping out our '86 22R (with blown headgasket) and putting this little diesel in there...thing is..its not turbo'd..just a diesel..i know our 5spd will boltup to it..which is good...and the motor bolts in directly...but how hard would it be to put a turbo on it..and what all would be involved..and is it something my dad and i could do with the help of a decent mechanic friend..i think they want $1000 for the motor and 2wd tranny...but maybe a lil less for JUST the motor...thanks for the info..and if we do this swap..it'll be runnin on BIO-diesel just like our '97 jetta TDI

Easy to put the turbo on but you would probably want a turbo injector pump to get the most power out of the turbo.

You can adjust the max fuel by half of a turn to add 10% fuel throughout the whole rev range but I dont think its very good compared to having the turbo injector pump.

curses toyota for making an L family of engine. it makes it so damn confusing to talk about...

we have a 1L here at the community college. its one of the most durable motors ive ever worked on, the 1L is the 2.0 liter motor, and has 64hp and 100ftlbs. the 2L is a 2.2 liter, not sure of the power output but i think its still less than the stock 22R. with a turbo it should be about even though you will have the advantage of not loosing so much power at an altitude, and it probably gets better mileage. Sounds like a cool swap

1st or 2nd gen 2L?

If you turbo it you'll want a turbo injector pump, otherwise if you crank the N/A one it will be rich as hell out of boost and leaner in boost, giving you inconsistent power. I wish I had a Toyota diesel truck.

convert it to run veggy oil, and build a filtration system. That'd be cool.
