Taco and Tacoma are the same thing You meant Tundra, right?
I think most of us are driving our preferred choices and mine is exactly the model and year and options I wanted.

I have had 5 4WD Toyota Truck over the last 20 years
-I loved my '86 4Runner (1st gen 4Runner)because I could take off the top
-'84 extra cab (2nd gen truck), Rolled it, drowned it, that thing would not die.
-'97 Tacoma Extra cab 2.7. that thing was just a great truck
-'05 Tacoma (3rd gen taco) DC TRD. The 4.0 was awesome, seated 5 comfortably.
-'81 Trekker (1st gen truck) I love it because it is one of only 1200 made and there are not a lot of them left. Fits on trails better...my wife calls it my mid life crisis
I would love to get a new Tundra but I am better gas is not gonna be cheap for long...

yes I ment tundra
my bad Tundra................I have noticed a lot of differences between my 95 4runner SR5 v-6 4x4 auto.....and the 89 Toyota Hi Lux standard cab 22R 4 speed, I sold last June to purchase the 4runner I have now
1.4runner more comfortable but uses more gas
2.HI Lux basic comfort but better on gas
3.4runner easier to drive being automatic and with the ADD feature it's a snap to put in 4x4 mode while driving
4.Hi Lux was no fun to drive in traffic to and from work 25 miles one way but If I wanted to go off road I was limited because it had no 4wheel drive
continued my list 12/10/08
5.my 4runner get's about 18mpg to and from work, not the best miles per gallon
6.my 89 Hi lux got about 25 mpg and I was surprised I thought it would have better mileage than that maybe it was because of having a carb and not EFI?
7.I didn't like the high rpms of the 89 hi lux when in 4th gear at highway speeds always sounded like it was screaming down the highway
8.I like the comfort of the 4runner on the highway but the 3.slow has a hard time keeping up with the 80+ mph speeds I have to hold the gas peddle almost against the floor to maintain and the O.D. is always kicking in and out depending on the elevations on the roads
9.my 89 hi lux was rough riding and limited gauge cluster
10.my 4runner is a bit smoother on the road but it has some blind spots and a bit hard to see out of when raining

my 95 4runner is made in Japan
Maybe that's why my tranny is still going even though It's grinding to beat the band so to speak....is there a difference of the two American Toyota's VS Japan Toyota's??

I love my 4 runner. Wife had had two of them before we met. Could use a truck, would like a Tundra crewcab, nice family vehicle and to tow a trail rig some day. If that's too expensive, then we will get a crewcab Taco..but I'm never going back to a car, and plan on keeping my runner till I die, or run out of gas.

4 Runner... 1st gen...EFI of course..and not just because I own one.
It allows you the same upgrades and such as a pick up...
the top is there to kep your stuff clean and dry, and can be removed for day trips...
You have the option of keeping the rear seats in or folding them forward for more cargo space....
