*edit... Nope the listing is gone, I'll be on the lookout to see if it pops up again because the thing was clean! Oh it was a second gen in case anyone was wondering

My instructor in college had one. He said it was really slow, and had some problems. It was a 1987 body style. 2wd.

A few members here have them but there is no specific sub-forum set up for them...
as for parts try www.roughtrax4x4.com a great shop in Britain good prices and they ship over here.
For service info the UK hilux forum www.hiluxsurf.co.uk is a good source of information very friendly folks and similar philosophy/family safe rules to us here.
Hope this helps you out.

I put a turbo on mine a while ago, and it fixed the 'slow' problem beautifully!!! truck pulls up hills like a charm now. I'm actually thinking of selling it, but not sure yet. Is it easy to bring them into the us from canada?

What the L are you talking about?

Toyota L Engines... We never got the good stuff b/c that stuff was sssssllllllooooowwwwww and here in Merica we got almost nothing but highways...

And Diesels, especially old Diesels with hardly no overdrive HATE highways.

Now a Kz... That's where it's at.

As far as forums. Try Mud and http://www.toyotadiesel.com/forums/

so far no problems with the 3L, and everyone I've talked to has always talked pretty highly of the 3L.

the motor in the topgear truck is the 2l non turbo
i have have 2lte for a while its a good motor.. depends how it was taken care of in japan..
sure if it does go i might put a different motor in but i this engine has been good.

parts are pretty easy .. i find www.toyotapartsales.com from toyota of dallas the best for oil filters and stuff.. even shipping to canada i still save. since some parts cross over from the 2lt that was available in canada i can get some parts at my local dealer i just say my truck is a 1986 diesel

update to an old thread. Just ordered fuel and oil filters for my 1KZ-TE (Toyota 3.0l turbo diesel). Noticed the oil filters have gone up a bit since my last order (around 08'). Looks like the cheapest 90915-30002 is now $18.04 from 1sttoyota + shipping.
I did an order through http://www.everythingtruckparts.com , and got a pretty good deal by calling. Owner's name is Tom and he called me after he noticed I cancelled my cart (I couldn't find the oil filter). Anyway, they stock Donaldson Filters (great quality, 90915-30002=P550597 and the fuel filter is a P550385). $25 for the oil and $21.04 for the fuel filter, $384.?? for the whole thing to my house and he ate the shipping. Tom said give him a call to get this as the part # for the oil filter isn't on the website 215-513-0212. Just another option out there and I appreciated someone who is so customer service oriented they called someone who wasn't even a customer!

Just bought a 92 diesel hilux a couple months ago. 4 wheel auto in Edmonton stocks Toyota parts. Havent compared their prices yet but they had excellent customer service.

I got a dieselhttp://www.yotatech.com/images/smilies/guitar.gif

Just picked up a 1985 diesel pickup xtracab, 2wd. Has 199k on dash, runs good ( little sluggish ) but hey it is an 85 ! Having the injection pump resealed & re-calibrated as we speak, maybe fix the sluggishness somewhat, it leaked !

Old thread update - I've managed to source most parts pretty close to home for my 2.8L diesel (even through local lordco, napa etc), although never tried www.everythingtruckparts.com or roughtrax.com... Recently ordered a drag link kit off of ebay aussie tho!!
