Replaced my head gasket/ cannot get my 86 22r to start
I have a 1986 toyota pick up 4x4 with a 22r carb engine.
Well first off the water pump went and all the coolant leaked out. The engine overheated and lost compression due to the head gasket being heat warped. i have replaced the head gasket, and put the engine back together. Now I am getting gas and a spark, the engine is turning over but it still will not start. Ive tried to set the timing at 0 tdc with the rotor poibted at number one but still no dice. What happens by adjusting the distributer i am getting blow out the carb with flames or back fire out the exhaust. What can I do to get it running? before the head gasket it ran perfectly. Thanks

I have had the distributor all the way around. i put the engine to top dead center and the rotor pointing at number 1 wire and nothing, so i turn the distributor around, take it out and turn it around and ive got it in a spot that i hear little explosions inside the engine but not back fireing and carb blow out. What can i do to get it started?
