Yea, the 8" doesn't like the ponies from the 3.4l supercharged. Also the rear brackets like to tear off also. I'm thinking I need to upgrade to a 9" after this latest diff blowout (90 4runner, 3.4l supercharged, BFBO).

If you want good power and a mostly bolt in application, swap in a 3.4l 5vz. There are a couple recyclers here in Colorado that have them as cheap as 500. Bolt on a charger and have some fun. ORS sells the goodies to make it easy.

Is the R150F the manual tran in my 94 v6 sr5 manual?

What about motor mounts and crossmember?
The money part isn't stoping me. Its the availability of parts. I want to do this swap if someone can point me in the right direction. I built and tuned my prelude to 411 fwhp with aem ems. It ran for a year on stock internals before I sold it for the M. So I have lots of experience with fi engines and tunning. All the work on all of my cars has been done by me alone so I'm not intimidated by this type of project as long as I have some direction. Thanks guys!
The R154 is the MKIII turbo 5 speed transmission. and yes, the R150F is the 4runner V6 5 speed.

Motor mounts need to be custom made. The crossmember isn't much of an issue, you can get both front sump and rear sump oil pans for the JZ motor. I can't remember which one the 4runner would need though.

There was a guy a few years back that detailed his 1JZ swap into a 2nd gen 4runner. Do a google search for it, and I'm sure you could find it. A 2JZ swap is almost identical.

The 4R is nearly 4000lbs with the aerodynamics of a brick. It's a truck. That said, it really could use a HP upgrade to about 200hp. It wouldn't win many races, but it would make freeway driving more pleasant.

If you have a 3.0, then the 3.4 is your best and easiest swap, with the least amount of fab work. Can be done in a few weekends with the help of a buddy or two.

Found it:

A T4R 1jz swap would be excellent. Can't wait to get started on my T4R project. Maybe I'll end up keeping the T4R after all. Thanks my fellow T4R owners.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^

hooly craptackular man dang and yes its like trying to take a fully loaded 18wheeler with like 3000hp and 97000foot#t and going auto crossing with it

and by the way the pictures above are indead real but think about it there only good for 0-60 times anything more i would never try anyday of the week

if you wanna go fast and stay all yota get yourself a 1st gen runner and tub her with a ford 9in rear and a 2jz-gte with a power glide and take her to the track anything more is just stupid ive sean suv's roll with just a high wind getting a flat tyre and fliping heck 3 days after i got mine i dropped it on her side and now you wanna make it all go fast and take away her turn key happyienes well then my friend your crazy

you want some advice and take this to the heart you have a go fast honda and now you have a nice a very nice looking runner rust free looking truck i say keep her and deal with with the fact that shes slow but think of this shes slow dont get good gas milage but thing she will be there for ever and if she does get a cold and gets sick where all just a click and type away to walk and help you though what ever is wrong

just my 0.2 cents but i say wheel her lift and 35's sick looking and super fun just be ok with a few dents and what not that you will get from the trails!!

Buy a 3rd gen V6 if you are stuck on a 4Runner and on paper it says it has only 33 more ponies than a 3.0 but it sure feels closer to 50 and when accelerating up a mountain pass it feels like another 100hp;3.0 are simply slow.

How much power can I net with a turbo 3.0? Where can I get manifolds? What is it tuned with?

I know what the options are I just need more information on whats neccessary to install them. If I know all the requirements I can measure out the costs and determine how much I'm willing to invest to get what I want.

The things I have to weigh out are:

Cost: Total estimated cost for the swap w/o labor. (I do all my own work)

Labor involved: if it requires welding or chassis cutting or steering dampner relocation I'm not interested. I need a mount kit and bellhousing that will work. Making a wiring harness doesn't intimidate me nearly as much. I built a harness for my prelude to link with the aem ems.

Power: bang for the buck.

Perks: 2j has the getrag option, 1j's are cheap, 7m's are cheap...

Thanks! Unfortunately they went out of business or something. I posted in the thread about 6 months back when it was still active
