gears rubbing-carrier damaged?

this obviously doesn't look pretty but is it something i should be worried about?
could it cause future damage? or is it okay? how can i fix it if needed?
what do you guys think?

Man... Where was this thread when I was reading about a Toyota diff problem... There was something exactly like what you have.
I'm almost positive it was on Zuk's site though...
Might want to surf around there and see what you can find...

after tried mentioned another thread it reminded me of this one on another forum:

sounds like you have a classic loose pinion gear. didn't even see that spider gear up against the carrier, that larger spider gear should be centered in the carrier on the axle...is the cross pin still in one piece? something got fubarred. you are sidelined
