gears rubbing-carrier damaged?

gears rubbing-carrier damaged?

this obviously doesn't look pretty but is it something i should be worried about?
could it cause future damage? or is it okay? how can i fix it if needed?
what do you guys think?
any input would be appreciate

I'm definitely not a gearing expert but yes that looks like something you should be worried about. Did you re-gear yourself or have someone do it for you?

looks like you have some chunkage down the spider gears or someone did a crappy attempt at a welded rear.

the carrier could be old damage.

Man... Where was this thread when I was reading about a Toyota diff problem... There was something exactly like what you have.

I'm almost positive it was on Zuk's site though...

Might want to surf around there and see what you can find...

look at the space between that spider and the case... WOW.

after tried mentioned another thread it reminded me of this one on another forum:

sounds like you have a classic loose pinion gear. didn't even see that spider gear up against the carrier, that larger spider gear should be centered in the carrier on the axle...is the cross pin still in one piece? something got fubarred. you are sidelined
