Gas Mileage and Other

Lookin to sell my current vehicle and get a toyota 1st gen pickup or 4runner. I want to do some work, nothing crazy, but enough to give it an aggressive look, pretty good height, and decent 4x4 capabilities. However, it still needs to get me around. I'm curious about what kind of gas mileage everyone is getting and their tire sizes as well as motor type. Kind of a new guy post. But I just need to get an idea to see what I'll be coughing out every week in gas money. Thanks in advance.

you need to be a bit more specific.

Toyota trucks have never been mileage champs...you can't have your cake and eat it too as the saying goes.

My '81 which is a 1st Gen truck gets about 15-17. Higher the truck the more you have aerodynamics of a Brick.
1st Gen 4Runners 84-89--which is also similar to a 2nd Gen truck 84-88 body wise

Yeah I get what you're saying...I have an 01 4runner right now but it's 2 wheel drive so I hate it haha. it gets like 17-20 but without any of the benefits of a 4wd. so as long as I'm not getting much worse than that then I'm good.

In my opinion the mileage you get depends on how your vehicle is set up and how you drive it. A totally stock vehicle will most of the time do better on mileage than a lifted truck with large tires and gears.

I think it may help you to invest in an intake or at least a K&N air filter to help you, if your issue is MPG

I have an 81 with 35 15.50s and i get about 15-17 as stated before. I dont know about the rest of yall but I am happy with that kind of milage out of my truck. You shouldnt be building one of these trucks hoping for prius mileage. I have heard of fairly stock first gens getting into the mid 20s though, but not built trucks.
