changing clutch on a 4x4 tacoma
my brother has a 2.7L/5speed tacoma. if i remember right it is a 1996. it's 4x4. i told him back at christmas his clutch is on it's last leg (it has 19x,000 miles on it). another guy told him the same thing recently, so he's starting to look into getting it changed. i've never done a clutch job before. i have full confidence that i'll be able to do it, but i don't know about the time contraints. my brother lives 3 hours away from me, so we'll have to start and finish in the same weekend. (also, he doesn't have a spare vehicle to drive while doing the job)
i recommended changing the slave cylinder while we're at it. but what about resurfacing the flywheel? is it absolutely necessary? cuz if we're stuck on a weekend and it comes to resurfacing the flywheel, we might have a problem finding a shop to do it on the weekend.
just want your opinions and/or tips. anything else i should know about ahead of time? let me know, thanks!

Resurface the flywheel. I know its gonna be a pain. But why go through all that trouble and not resurface the flywheel. Do it once. Do it right.

The thing with the fly wheel you just don`t know till it is all apart.
The price of new fly wheels has come down so much it wouldn`t hurt to just put a new one on Sell the used one.
Like all other projects a visit from Mr. Murphy can really screw things up. as an example correct box wrong clutch in box .
The hard part for me is removing all the things needed to get the transmission out .
The trans and clutch are the easy part.

On my first truck a 1990 Chevy 1500 I did an engine replacement and i used my old flywheel which looked decent, but in the end was a tad bit warped and it was extremely rough start in 1st gear... and it didn't help that I went to college in the mtns. So definately get the flywheel turned or get a new one, and and i got a new to me transmission on my T4R and while it was off i had them put on a URD performance clutch just for preventative measures. Better to be right the first time then have to keep taking the tranny out to fix minor problems

why did this get moved to the newbie tech section? i've been posting on here for 6 years! haha. anyways, mods, can you move it back to where it belongs, in the 96 tacoma tech section so more people can see the post? that's where i put it originally.
