89 4runner, remove ignition key cyl
I searched the forums and came up with a hit on drilling out the core of a 3rd gen ignition cylinder, so my guess is that the directions are close. I have not found info on the 1st gen 4runners as of yet. (Found some links out there but most of them are dead links)
Now, here is my problem. My ignition cylinder is completely worn out, so I was going to remove that, and replace/rekey it. Turns out that the previous owner jammed something down the release pin hole, and I can't remove the cylinder due to the damage. To make certain, I took the truck by the locksmiths, and they could not get the core out with vicegrips and the proper tools.
It was the opinion of the locksmiths that the cylinder was too damaged to use, and that I should grab one from a wreckers and get it rekeyed.
Now, how do I drill out the current cylinder so as to make the insertion of a new cylinder simple, and at the same time, not damage the rest of my steering column?
