4Runner gas tank size?

I have a question for some of the more senior members here, I have a 2000 4Runner SR5 4X4, I don't get that good of MPG's with it due to a couple of reasons. I drive too fast, and I let it idle too much, in cold weather. I have to drive a lot and I find myself at the pump sometimes 2-4 times a day. I was wondering how some of you deal with such a small tank??? Thanks for any help here. TJ

A day!?!? 2-4 times in one day? Are you filling up each time? Where in the heck do you go during the day? Sorry, I have nothing yet except questions.

Omaha, back to Winterset, then back out to Logan, or Osceola, Des Moines, Ames, Newton, Tama, Alantic, Boone, Perry, Harlan, Sidney, Corning, Crestion, or any where in between. One day last summer I went 600 miles and didn't leave the state. If you call I will come and Bail you out of jail too. lol TJ

Try not using ethanol for a tank and see if you get better mileage. I have been lately. This tank out weighed the cost of it. I wouldnt have saved anymore cash buying the cheaper sod buster fuel.
And stay off the interstate as much as possible. There are tons of county and back roads in this state that you can take them. (but I understand you might be under a time schedule and this may or maynot help you)

4Runners and anything else that doesn't see MPGs in the 20s are poor choices for that much driving period in such a short time.

I have a 1994 Chev Caprice and it gets 22mpg's Don't ask me how it does it but it just does. It also has one huge tank, back at $3 a gal. it would cost if completely empty almost a C note to fill. The 4Runner is such a small tank and I have to hurry sometimes to get folks out of jail, ie 80+ mph so I kill the mpg's in it the capriec will still do 20+ mpg's at that kind of speed. I don't worrie about the cost of the fuel so much just get tired of looking at E on gas gauge.....TJ

I also do a lot of driving, in the city and highway... and think that the gas tank is a little small.... I ussually fill up 2-3 times a week.... My Maxima had a larger gas tank than the Runner!

If I am correct our tanks ar 16 Gallons with a 2 gallon reserve to make them 18 gallons total right?
If so, yeah that tank is small...
My olds had a 16 gallon tank...
I miss it, it got 29 (32 with good gas, oil change, and a nice filter) on the highway and 19 (22 with good gas, oil change, and a nice filter) in the city...

I fill up at least twice a week cause I do a mixture of city/highway/backroads...

But yeah for your type of driving...
Might really want to consider a more fuel efficent and small vehicle...
Small car is better on gas and faster...

How about an MR2 Spyder?
It's still toyota and I think gets a decent gas mileage rating...

I would just love to have a MR2 Spider, just one problem, It would like like some one was trying to stuff sasuage into a MR2. I'm 6'4" and tip the scales at 380LBS. I have lifted weights most of my life. I wear a size 66 Tall long sport coat and a size 48 inch weist with a 35 inch inseam pants. I have a 241/2 inch neck. The last time I looked at an MR2, "It," started up and ran away!!!! LOL I need a huge inside high gas mpg and runs like a supra twin turbo.... Not asking for much am I....lol TJ
