Buying a 2010 Tacoma - 5 speed aut or 6 speed manual?
Forgive me if you saw some of this chatter over on Expedition Portal but that is meant for a different discussion/topic.
I am ready to pull the trigger on a 2010 Tacoma. 4 door 4x4, TRD off road package, short bed, e-locker.
My question is, pros/cons over the 5sp auto or 6 speed manual. I had originally wanted the 6 speed manual but people seem to love the automatic?
Help!

peepers, try TTORA as there are more Tacoma guys there. But like I've said before, the new 6-sp have been known to have problems and the auto might be stronger. It's got PLENTY of power.

My mom has a Tundra with the 1GR-FE and six speed manual, it is awesome, I'm pretty sure it's the same tranny as the Taco, this one works just fine, no problems and it's at 45,000 miles.

I grappled with the same decision on my 2008 and I opted for the slush box. The given mpg is actually better with the automatic, oddly enough. I do plenty of off roading and the automatic just made more sense. Plus, with the traveling I do in the winter time, having the VSC has saved me from being on my roof more than a few times.
I also think you can get a few more options with the automatic since Toyota only builds their vehicles so many ways.
And, with the five speed, you get nearly the amount of control you would get with a manual.
But again - test drive both back to back and make the decision for yourself.

A few years ago I would have told you to go with a stick. I had a manual 3rd gen. I now have a 6 speed manual in my IS250 and the 5speed auto in my current runner. The manual is more fun to boot around in, but sitting in traffic really sucks. As to offroading, I have now found it easier with the auto.
I miss my manual 3rd gen, but it was fun and not really practitcal.

Personally, I like the auto a lot more than the manual. I too once thought that manuals were the end all beat all and I wouldn't own an auto, but since it was the only option with the DC LB it had to be done. I've grown to love autos.
Plus, you get a wicked-sweet tranny cooler.
