ride quality?

I too have a 88 pu with saggy pants, I see a lot of 4runners use this "fix", I am worried about the spring rate being too aggressive for the pickup. With this being said, my 88 is a longbed with a shell and a bike rack, would this make the weight similar? Would dropping the spring rate to 115# fix the ride height and keep the ride quality? just wondering. Thanks for all help and input.

I got the springs on ebay for around $70 shipped, they are called black magic springs, there are tons of sizes available.
The tire shop couldnt align my truck, I havent adjusted it at all since the lift so im bringing it to another shop tomorrow morning.

Very nice set up sir! Swampers on a Yota are at the top of my list as far as setting of an aggressive look!

Thanks guys, I brought the air pressure down to 26 psi and it handles better, might try it at 30 later. I'll try to take it in the mud soon and get pics/video.

Thanks! My skyjacker shocks finally came in, but they didn't include my boots for them. I emailed the company so hopefully they send them soon

Hey jrrtt09,

Did you ever get those shocks installed? I just got a 88 4Runner that has what looks to be a 2" BJ spacer and the Zuk mod. The alignment shop told me this morning that my shocks may be over-extended or bound up (very stiff ride), I don't know what shocks they are. I was curious to see how the Skyjackers worked out for you.

Hey jrrtt09, I am planning to sas soon but find the BJ spacer and Black magic springs to be an easy temporary alternative till i get my kits completed. My 4runner is stock and as of right now i was forced to throw on my 33/12.5/15 Sport King tires on Stock SR5 rims due to some tire problems i mentioned on my thread. So anyway you can only imagine the amount of rubbing i get in my wheel wells.
So... why do i tell you all this. Well I have a serious question for you. I dont wanna buy myself a new set of 31's considering i already have the 33's. I seen on PG 1 of this thread that your new tires are 33x13.50r16. and you lifted it with 13" x 5" 125 lb coil springs and 1.5" BJ spacers. So my 2 questions to you are, 1) What is the backspacing to your rims. It's important to the world that i know this lol jk only to me. I need to see if the backspaceing is the same as my stock sr5 rims. and 2) do you get any rubbing at all in your wheelwells with your tires at all???
I absolutly need to be sure on these 2 questions before i go ahead and throw money into these two 1.5" bj spacers and coils.

I dont get smaller wheels because i plan to go 35/12.5/15 when i sas and get my 4" lift. So This type of lift you did would be a great alternative for me to use so i can use up whats left of my tred on these 33's. and will be cheaper then buying a whole set of 4 31's and then having to deal with selling them.

Whenever you have time bro. Just a question i need to have answered b4 i buy. Thanks dude

I actually installed the shocks this weekend, I've been busy with my 4 wheelers and am in the process of building a fairly large cooler/radio for tailgating this season.

I replaced the shocks and removed my sway bar while i was under there. It rides pretty good considering I'm running LTBs. The flex is much better and i have no problems cornering, not that i go fast anyways.

As for rubbing, it rubs when i turn as sharp as it will go. I didn't adjust my torsion bars at all and didn't beat on anything or trim anything, so if i tighten the torsion bars a little it will level the truck out and probably resolve the rubbing issues. The coil springs did lift the truck a little more than the BJ spacers. I'm not sure what backspacing the wheels are, they are not very wide, i have about an inch between my tire and upper control arm

In the time between me asking the question and now, I already ordered and installed some Skyjackers for a 0-2" lift. They're working out great for me. Thanks for the update.

I ran the shocks that were already installed on the truck for a few weeks until I recently installed the skyjackers. The old shocks are blue so im not sure if they are oem or aftermarket, but I had no problem with the old ones. I recommend the skyjackers, especially if you get the discounted price for "scratch n dent" directly off of their website.

Oh no I was askibg if they worked with the OEM shocks because I was planning on this being a temporary fix till I finally got everything I need in my sas and lift parts ordered(which would be by late Nov or December. But this is enough info. Thanks so much. It was really helpful.

well i just ordered a factory 4.88 third member, i plan on installing spacers to lower the differential and crank the torsion bars to add a little more lift when i install it.
Why are rear third members selling for so much more than front thirds?

My *guess* is supply and demand. Maybe the market for regearing is mainly people who are also serious enough to have gone solid front axle.

I recently regeared from 4.1 to 4.88 with 32" tires and it made a pretty substantial difference. I did the diff drop as well, and my cv axles are almost horizontal now. (I don't think my t-bars are cranked... but it's hard to tell what the previous owner did.)

Thanks! I'm tossing up the idea of installing a locker in the rear since I'll probably get a new daily driver in the next year or two. I won't have time to do it, so I'll have to pay for someone else to install it, or buy one online with one installed.
How much does labor usually cost to install gears/locker.
I see a trail gear set up with a spool on ebay for $750 shipped.
