worth the money?

My buddy has an 86 22r 4x4 toyota and he told me he would sell it to me for 600 bucks. It has roughly 180k miles and smokes pretty bad. Its not steam like a headgasket nor is there oil in the coolant. He inssists that all it is is that the carb is messed up and is dumping tons of fuel into it. I mean its a nice truck expecially for the price and it only needs a new drivers door( trailer backing accident) and could use.a paint job in a couple years. Im not extremely familiar with the 22r and would like advice. P.S. the smoke is blackish like it should be if it was getting too much fuel

I think its usually an oil burning issue when it smokes.. but depends on the sm9ke and what it smells like and the color. Anyway, even if u do a rebuild I think its worth it.

An 86 with a 22r?
Neat.
It's had an engine swap.

Apparently I stand corrected.
I've never seen or heard of anything passed 85 with a carb.

Buy it, worth fixing it. And even if you don't want to fix it. Part it out and double your money

Well i dont think its burning much oil if any he said he usually has to add a quart between changes. The smoke is blackish and does smell like fuel. I know i can triple my money instantly but i dont want to. I kinda want to drop a 302 in it but i dont think the tranny will hold up to the one i have. Its more than your average 5.0

Nice, those gears help a lot for that top speed also.
