K, got an update for you Ricky, as well as anyone else who wants one. I ordered one tonight, and recieved this email.

The full switched ground harnesses are still not in stock. Do have the H4/switched power
harnesses in stock ($35.00) plus the switched ground "black boxes" to allow you to covert
that harness to switched ground operation ($20.00):

So he has everything available to make the harness, you just have to wire in the black box when you get it and you're off and running. $55 for brighter headlights is nothing. I think even a wiring moron like myself can manage this one.

Just figure it would be nice for everyone to know the right amount to send in..

i dont know how 89 and old wires it, but in my 90, the current dont go all the way to the steering column.

you have 2 relays in the underhood fuse panel. the problem is that the wires coming off that relay to the headlight socket is so thin...

18 gauge, IIRC.

i made my own harness (12 gauge wires) and i only gained like .6 volts.

around that time, i talked to roger (4crawler.. we are in the same 4wd club) and he mentioned his 85 4runner, he gained over a volt. so for him, it was worth it.

for me... it was not noticeable...

I have sealed beam headlights still and had a friend home brew a harness. It was a big improvement! He took info 4crawler had on his site and went from there. the only problem is my high beam light inside the truck barely lights up when the high beams are on, but it's no big deal to me...just suck for other drivers! ha ha

I don't know Chick, sometimes you get what you pay for. Roger is an electrical engineer and in my experince with 4crawler he has very little mark-up on his stuff. His harnness (although he doesn't make them himself) has some extras that make it better IMHO and worth the extra $.

Just finished installing the harness. Didn't take long. Once I had the harness in my hands, the instructions on wiring in the "black box" to convert the harness from a switched power to a switched ground made sense. Cut one wire on the harness and spliced in the "black box" Now the headlights work, as well as the high beam indicator on the dash. Its not dark yet, so haven't had a chance to see the difference, but with how chintzy the wires were before and the distance the current ran, I am sure it will be noticeable.

The worst part was adding more wires into the same space I have my Electric fan wires as well as my battery intake swap wires. Running out of real estate!!

4Crawler was a big help with everything, especially for a wiring beginner like myself.

what are you guys doing to get more/better light output out of you're 92-95 4runners..

i want to convert over to the <91 but it seems to be A LOT of work to do it..cutting core supports and such

i mean i know i could always just get new better higher wattage bulbs..but i want some BRIGHT lights..im tired of not being able to see crap on the road
