transfer case shifter won't go back in
i just did the clutch on my 91 4runner 22re and the transfer case shifter won't go back in, i know it's not in backwards. i can put it in but it moves freely and i don't know what mode it's in. What did i f up now

Those levers can be hard to fit sometimes. It may seem like it's in the right place, but you have missed the slots in the shift rails... at least that's my guess.
It's unlikely that you moved the rails out of position doing a clutch job, but I suppose anything is possible. I'd suggest looking closely at where the end of the shifter goes in regards to the rails, and then make sure it gets there when you bolt it back on. Should be a pocket kinda like this [].
It's easy to have the end of the shifter sit in the wrong place, and then the lever will feel seized or when it moves does nothing... but I guess you already know that.
