timing question.
ok i have a quick question..22re, if i set my timing to 5 btdc the truck runs fine, but with no get up and go. If i advance to like 15btdc it has get up and go but slight misfire, (you can put your hand up to exhaust and fill it missing). Is this normal?

are you jumpering the diagnostic connector's TE1 and E1 terminals before setting the timing?
otherwise, yeah, that's about what'll be like.

Is it the original timing chain? I have ran into a couple of these that the chain is old and stretched. Makes it a pain to time correctly!!! Usually broke down and changed it although it was at the customers dime!!!

Adjust your TPS. When you short TE1 E1 the engine idle should change. If not your TPS is out of adjustment. IDLE to E2 pegs on the TPS should be a closed switch when the butterfly is closed (idle) as soon as you start to open the throttle that contact should open. If this is not the case you will not be setting base timing, thus the high reading.
