Oh gawd... don't get me started on Diff oil... I was riding in a shaweet buggy on Moab rim when the driver grenaded the front diff up on the sand hill... I jumped out and threw my hand up there to stop that oil from pouring out (not so good for the enviro ya know)

Moab Sand + Diff Fluid + No Shower + Sleeping Bag = Take one for the team! (But at least this time I volunteered to get dirty)

OK Update:

We (I) Could not have buttoned Ron up without all your help! Special thanks to AxleIke, FJCruzer, Ike, Doug, and AvsFreak for the ICU care after the surgery!

AxleIke giving Ron the Heave Ho:

The Peanut Gallery was essential!

He Moves!!!! (He's Alive!)

Starting the Alignment Lesson....

(Most of) the Crew. Thanks Guys. Hope MollyFood(tm) was worth it

Unfortunatly - Isaac (AxleIke) may have discovered a problem with Ron's rear Diff now...

And I quote:

This was done with the rear wheels on the ground, and no rear drive shaft.

When I rotated the rear pinion flange, it move the normal amount of back lash, and then stopped. Upon further pressure, the pinion flange would move a little more, but in a wierd way, that is almost impossible to explain here.

So, I pulled the pinion flange off, and looked inside. No immediate destruction, but, when I grabbed the pinion, it was able to move side to side pretty good. I could see the bearing moving inside as well. The pinion did not shift down into the diff at all.

Is this a bad pinoin bearing or a bearing that has moved? Or something else?

I obviously understand that internet diagnosis is difficult, but any thoughts would be most helpful, especially thoughts that don't involve removing the rear diff.

Not overly familiar having never taken one apart myself but it sounds like the pinion bearing may have had the bisquit. You should'nt be able to get that kind of movement out of it so far as I know.

Well, its hard to say...

I thought about it some more, and talked with Troy, and it COULD be that the pinion moves like that because without the pinion flange, there is no preload on the bearings. It was a good bit of movement though.

We'll see.

The blades don't seem to matter what you've got, those camber bolts are so hard that they just eat the teeth off of the blades in seconds.

SAS may be a bad word, but it would have been more rewarding than that project.
Agreed. Cutting those bolts out SUCKS! (I had to do the same to the lower a-arms on my Supra, and I killed so many blades doing that job. Ugh. I don't even want to think about it!

Nice work.
