A/T temp light?

Dont use my truck much but i took it for an hour trip @ about 75-80mph and the a/t temp light came on and went off when i slowed down after about 10 minutes. When i stopped the underside of the truck had transmission fluid everywhere but dip stick shows full. Shifts fine unless i smash it. Was rebuilt about 11,000 miles ago. Never had as much power after rebuild but toyota dealership did headgasket change that lead to the torque converter and transmission going out the day i got it back. They had it rebuilt at some shop and it sucked ever since. Never could pinpoint the power loss. Could the linkage need to be adjusted? Would that cause power loss?

id start with seeing if i needed a new gasket on the tranny pan first off...if you do need one then i would check your solenoids with your multimeter once your pan is off and replace them if they are bad ..i wouldnt even be surprised if you were missin a gear or somthin[the use of it] and just didnt notice it other than the power loss.. the fluid has a hot and cold level for checkin the fluid level, you know? hope this didnt confuse you[or the bad tranny shop] and then too much tranny fluid got dumped in her..idk though so just start lookin into these things i woiuld say...good luck

If the truck isn't shifting into overdrive, then the torque converter won't lock up. Pushing a brick through the air at 80mph takes a lot of power, and I'm not surprised that it overheated. Good thing the sensor was working .

I don't know enough about the transmission to remember if it's got a kickdown cable or not, but it might be the cause of no lock up. Honestly if a Dealer ****ed it up, why are you dealing with it? Ask for the Master technician to look at it (all dealers must have at least 1 master Tech that's trained in transmissions). If that fails, call Toyota head office. They take this stuff very seriously.

Are you sure you checked the fluid level right? Here's a good writeup on how to check it (thanks to skjos):
Test Drive And Level Check
Now take the rig for a nice 15 mile drive to get the new ATF up to temperature. Park on a level surface and run through the gears P-R-N-D-2-1 and back 1-2-D-N-R-P stopping about 2 to 3 seconds in each gear. Keep your truck running, insert the dip stick, and measure the level. You should be in the "hot" range on the dipstick. If you are low add some more ATF, if you are high drain a little from the cooler line using the flush method. Note: you may want to do the test drive before putting the skid plates back on, this will make it easier to remove fluid if necessary.
Quoted from here: http://home.centurytel.net/stevenjac...sh/tranny.html

Does the ATF look ok, ie... clear red? Are you losing any coolant?

Its been way too long ago to complain with the dealership. I will try that method to check. I just checked it on the hot side after the trip. Dipstick or fluid wasnt even hot.
