Stereos and your trucks...
Is there any clean way to get a system in these trucks that doesnt suck?
Right now, I have jensen 4 1/2's in the front, and i upraded to 6 1/2's in the back seats.
I want to get a cd/mp3/xm ready deck in there... but there isnt any point of doing that unless i can get a quality system in there.
I want to get a sub... nothing fancy, a 12 or even a 10 box would do, I just cant think of any way to make it all look pretty.
help.

The sound system is on my list of mods...Here is what I plan on doing...
Upgrade the fronts..I have pioneers, but they are old. Thats your MAIN problem...You have JENSEN speakers. They SUCK. Get a nice set or POLKs or pioneers.
I have those small boxes in the EXT cab of the pickup..each one holds a 6X9. Im going to put a good quality speaker in those. Probably an infinity..or Polk. Even Pioneer sounds great though
For a sub...Im not sure yet. I think one 10; sub should be plenty in that small tin can of a cab.

Before my truck was stolen, I bought 2 JL Audio 6w0's (6.5" subs) and I built a downfiring box out of MDF which I put behind the front passenger seat on the floor and I found grey carpet very closely matching the stock stuff and it looked pretty good and sounded good. It wasn't like a major thumper or anything, but those 2 - 6w0's sure made it sound much, much better and gave me a lot of the low's I was missing. I had a JL Audio e1200 powering these subs.
In the front speaker locations I have JL Audio 4" or whatever size speakers, the rear has the 6" JL audio speakers. Just the base model ones, they don't sound too bad. If I ever get around to another sub again the future to replace the one that was gone and not covered by insurance, I might just do a higher end single 8" and build some kind of box to fit it behind the front seats, maybe behind the front console or something and cover it with the grey carpet again.

I think what I'm gonna end up doing, once the $ comes is just to get a tool box for my bed, throw my jack and all that crap in there...
then take out the seats from the back, and use that ledge for a 2x10 box.
Although... there goes my passenger capacity.

I have a Pioneer CD deck, Infininty speakers upfront, and Polk speakers mounted on 1/4" thick plexiglass were the cargo hatches used to be with green neon behind them on my '93 extra-cab. Sounds great!

i have the JL stealthbox in my taco ext-cab. its a down firing 10" sub. it sits like an armrest between the backseats and you can still lift up the seats to get to the 2 compartments and with a 1/400 amp it sounds really good

When I had an x-cab, I built a pair of prism-shaped boxes each with a 6"x9" and 4". I had them just the right size that they fit right where the floor rises up to make the back seats, with the shade of carpet. I also had a bazooka tube the fit between the two fold-down seats.
Now I've got a 4runner, so no end to space in the back for speakers. My only concern is ruining the balance having all the sound come from the back and almost nothing coming out of the stock 4" speakers in front.

in my 4runner i've got polkmomo all around and two 12 inch kenwood subs with a dual audio head unit.... it sounds amazing. BBUUUTTTTTTT, in a truck its harder to fit stuff like that. my friend has a taco and i installed the same head unit i have in my truck in his and put two 8 inch subs where the back speakers used to be and it sounds great. just switching out the head unit makes a big difference.

Have the cops found it yet?
JBL makes a nice small 10" sub box unit that does'nt sound bad at all [in demos]...
