I changed my plugs on Friday, (I think), and the #6 plug started to get cross-threaded. Once I noticed it wasn't going in straight I didn't force it so I don't think I did much if any damage. Later my dad used a tap on the cylinder and got it to screw in but now it's make a bit of a ticking noise. It's running perfectly fine, my idle's kinda rough but it was like that before. Is there anything I could do or should I just leave it?

Also before anyone suggests it. It isn't my injectors. This noise started immediately after changing my plugs.

are u sure u didnt hurt the spark plug wire and what u are hearing is the spark jumping to ground? best way to find out is run it at night and u can see the spark jump.

Hmm. I could have the wires were on there pretty tight. I'll go check now...

You have to realize that if you run a tap through an aluminum head without making allowances to remove all of the chips, there are most likely going to be some metal flakes ending up in the cylinder. My bet is that one of those chips is causing the exhaust valve to stay open a crack, and causing your ticking sound.

I mention that it is an aluminum head because that hopefully means that the problems will eventually clear themselves out and your only lasting problem will be a slight clogging of the catalytic converter.

Thanks for the info. I thought that the ticking might have been getting quieter. I think I'm just going to leave it. It's running perfectly fine anyhow and soon enough it will be 3.4 swap time!

Please understand that I am just providing an educated guess. I've only been a 'yota guy for 8 months now, though I did rebuild a 22R with my dad back in 1996 (before I had any inkling of this 'internet' thing).

If we care at all about our engines, the slightest noise keeps us up at nights. If you think it is getting quiter, then the sound has probably actually been gone for two days!
