A service engine soon light problem I can't figure out on a 93' pickup

Hi everyone,

I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup with a 3.0L V6. I have an emmissions test coming up in about a month and have a service engine soon light. The light does not affect the car as far as being able to start and run ( I have been driving with the light on for a while with no serious problems), but it does have an effect on the feel of it. When I start the truck, there is no light present. I will run the truck a little bit getting the RPMs over or around 2500 and the light clicks on (this seems to happen most commonly in 2nd gear and I assume it is because I am giving it the most gas). On top of that, when the light clicks on and I am driving, I feel a large loss in power and the truck will bog a little bit until I step on the gas a ltitle harder and then it gets going. Before the light goes on the truck runs great, but when it clicks on you can feel a loss in power for some reason and it remains that way for the rest of the drive. Then it is a rinse and repeat process every time I shut off and start up the truck. I am not sure what the reasoning is behind or what I have to fix to rid the truck of that light, but I know they will not pass you at the emissions test if the light is on. I would check it electronically with a computer but because the truck is before 95, this is not a possibility. Can anyone shed any light on the problem or what I should possibly change?

Thank you

You need to check your codes to see what is causing the problem. Search check engine light and you will see how to do it and what codes are present in your case....regards....Rick

You short circuit E1 & TE1 in the little capped connector located on the side of the fuse block under the hood (you can use a paper clip), then turn the ignition to ON & count the number of flashes. This will give you the code (i.e., 3 flashed, pause, and 5 flashes indicates a code 35). Just remember to wait for the pause, as there may be more than one code indicated. It will continue to repeat as long as you leave the key in the ON position.

If it's just a steady flashing, you have no codes. Let us know what you find.

Incidentally, you NEED to read the FAQ thread in the STICKIES section of this forum: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-first-214051/
