This is my 22RE work truck. Not sure exactly how much my trailer ways but the yota yanks it around great

One of my old 87 22RE. This one of those crapy Harbor Freight trailers(dont buy one). She would dog a bit going up Hwy50 but other than that no problems.

I know this isnt towing... But thought I'd throw it in

It sucks in hot weather but very nice in cold weather.
I plan on doint the 'Y' pipe with extra heat sheilding (hope it helps), other than that I love the bike. Did awesome on highway 550 in Co.

Glad to see more 22RE yotas towing, I got this truck for the reliability (a junker that will save me money) and now I'm finding myself throwing money at it like I do with my bikes and guns.

Also, Love the pics, hauling bikes in your truck is an exception.

Its no fun throwing money at a truck and still not running any better, that's why went out bought a fj cruiser. i was tired of replacing parts every weekend instead of hunting or riding my bike.

I'm sure mine will run much better and be more reliable after the engine swap. I could go and buy a new truck (I've made that mistake once). Now I simply pay cash for everything and try not to dump too much money into my toys. Also, being mechanically inclined helps to keep my rigs running well and honestly I enjoy the weekend projects.

my 22 barely goes 30 up my hill, and i pull a 6x8 trailer with my 900lb wheeler on it around town and it pulls fine. no power on hills, but it never does anyways. you could pull that no problems.

Decided to go with Kendon single motorcycle trailer (trailer weight 300 lbs with a load rating up to 1000 lbs), Can't wait to get my hitch installed now.


Nice to hear about the 22RE towing success! If/when I decide to change the gearing.. What gearing will help to pull a trailer up hills but will still do well on the interstate??

see, that's the thing. with stock gears and tires, you get both low(ish) rpm's on the highway, and good torque for towing. if you gear lower, you'll have higher rpm's. if you get a bigger tire, you'll have a less torque. though, with the right combo of the two, i'm sure you could find a good compromise.

i think you could get away with 31's...

So I should keep my gearing stock since I currently have 31's (M/T)? I don't plan on doing any serious off roading with my stock IFS, but will do some off roading. Thanks for the advice.

hey, i'm still on 235's, so i know you'll be fine for wheeling.

maybe if you find a great deal on some 4:30's, but for what you're doing, load that bike and have fun!

I also have a 22re Runner and the 4:56 gears was the "golden ticket" with 31"s and my heavy bumpers. Either way your good to go!

Nice ride there, sc87yota...nice family you got there too. Reminds me of mine except my son is now about 5'6", 130 lbs or so and just turned 13...and my wife's dark hair is shorter. I'll contribute my pic as soon as I get one of my 4Runner pulling my Triton double sled trailer with the sleds on it...

What kind of rear bumper is that and what's it rated for?

No problem for me, just be careful when stopping, the brakes are kinda weak.

After doing more long distance driving I think I'm going to wait on pulling the bike till I upgrade: exhaust system, intake, and gearing. Climbing these mountains is no joke!
