power steering woes.....
so the tension adjusting idler pulley for my power steering belt just seized up and the belt broke. I asked Napa, and they said its a dealer only part. Two questions:
1) Anyone know where to get one other than a dealer, or have one lying around they want to get rid of?
2) More importantly, what is everyone's thoughts on driving it without the belt on, but leaving the pump hooked up to the steering box. I know it will be hard to steer, no power steering, yada yada, more worried about ruining the pump driving like this until i can get a new pulley.
lemme know what you guys think
thanks

I guess the first thing to do is check the dealer and see how expensive it actually is, who knows? It could actually be cheaper than you think,
After that I would start checking all the other parts stores in town,
After that I would go to a junk yard (maybe do this first)
After that I would look at some place like rockauto.com or partstrain.com
As for driving around without the pump pumping, I don't know, maybe someone else will chime in

I dont see any damage from doing that. You will probably have a mess tho from fluid bursting out through the cap cuz you will be turning the wheel without the pump spinning (ask me how i know).
For your tensioner you might do what i did..
I knew my tensioner pulley was on the way out so i bought just the bearing for the pulley and installed that, its really easy. I cant recall the part # off the top of my head but do a search and you will get my post where sumone told me the part # and you can take that to a parts store and they can crossreference that to whatever brand of bearings they carry..
that is of course unless it broke more then just the pulley

well, turns out the idler tensioner pulley from the ac works where the power steering one is, so that is what i did, cut belt off ac, took off pulley, and put on power steering bracket. napa and such say that the pulley for power steering is dealer only, and all the listings from online websites such as rock auto and such only have a listing for the ac one. so anyone that needs this pulley, my suggestion is to just buy the ac one and use for power steering.
