Pair Valve Cleaning, can it be done?

Quick question while I wait on my new head. I am wondering if I can clean the Pair or Reed Valve (whichever one is flat and rectangular). I want to take it off and appart to clean but I don't want to be needing gaskets and such.

Has anyone taken one appart, are there gaskets or O-rings? Do they usually rip or tear when seperated?

Thanks
