Teds instructions say 12 ft/lb for the tensioner. I have done 6 or 7 of them and have had 1 fail after a few days. Ted sent me a new one, no charge. It is a crap design. This and 3slow head gaskets are the only problems with these trucks IMHO.

The hole that supplies the hydraulic pressure is small. Even a small bit of crud could plug it up. I'm wondering if that's what often causes newly installed tensioners to fail.

Could be but I'd guess that over-torquing the tensioner is the biggest culpret.
