In need of more help on the 4runner
So, after I finished replacing my CV joints I found out the side gear shaft on the passenger side is what I would call loose and has a good amount of play. What is the best way to fix this and do I need to replace the differential or just the oil seal or the side gear shaft?

For some reason they all do that. How much play I don't know but most i've dealt with have a pretty good amount of play. As long as your axle seal doesn't leak you should be fine

Not in 4wd I hope. If your vibration is just in 2wd check the output flange of your tcase. Alot of times the nut backs off giving some play to the driveshaft. As far as your front, if you arn;t leaking, you're good

I suggest this "fix" be added to a tech FAQ
Hit the boneyard and buy an ADD IFS. You will notice it has needle bearings instead of a brass bushing on the passenger side. (The brass bushing has worn and is not spared as best I can tell)
You will have to swap your passenger tube and long axle stub over and add a oil seal that is used in the non ADD box. I would also use the short stub shaft that came with the doner ADD box; as the old one probably show wear.
And while you have it out; toss a locker in there
I grab ADD IFS boxes when I shop the bone yards for this reason, I have 2 IFS trucks.

Every high mileage IFS box I have torn down has that problem; and consider it one of Toyota's small engineering flaws. In fact; if you turn hard and slowly moved forward you probably will mistake it for a failing CV joint. I did.
