my latest problem - starting/electrical...??

I've got a '92 22RE 4x4. In June for the first time I noticed the battery light came on when I turn the ignition off. It lasted for about two days but never happened again all summer. Than a couple weeks ago the battery light came on (again only when the ignition is off, even with the key out). It has been intermittent, sometimes its on, sometimes its off, sometimes its flickering.
About five days ago I started the truck and it fired but immediately died. Tried a few times with the same result. Hmmmm. So I unhooked the battery for a few seconds, reconnected it and it fired fine. Weird. Everything has been good until last night the same thing happened. Truck fires up, gets to 1000 rpm and dies. Unhooking and reconnecting the battery fixes it.
Now I'm starting to get worried. What could be the problem. Where to start looking???? Any ideas????

I'd say a bad ground somewhere in the system. Start at the battery.........make sure you're grounded to the block cleanly and the body. Then, check starter, fusible linkage, main fuse panel, etc. Look for near breakage and/or corrosion.
