I don't have the capability to custom fab my own bumper, but I don't want to pay $200 in shipping either. This just really sucks. I'm not 100% on the shipping amount but it's not going to be a small amount and you figure in $400 for the bumper itself. That's a bummer! Why are they so expensive? I know it can't cost $400 to make a bumper. I guess I'm just trying to figure out the difference in the Marlin and CBI rear bumpers for a $100 difference.

Inside or outside the frame rails?
One more question: Looking at the MC site, it looks like they have the mounting plates on the outside of the frame rails in the pickup that's pictured. When I look under mine, you can't put a plate on the outside of the frame rail. The factory and my current Smittybilt bumpers both slide inside the rails.
How does yours mount??

They slide inside the rails. The outside mounting and the little weld are both on the Taco. You could weld it on an old 4Runner but with it inside the frame like that it's not going to move much....I think it'll be the same for yours.

Cool! Thanks!! I might weld it anyway, since the Smitty has banged into the bottom of my tailgate a few times. I'd prefer to not allow it to move at all.

Would love to be able to do this stuff myself and do have some training (long ago - High School metal shop, but like riding a bike......) and experience. Unfortunately, two things stand in my way:
Lack of equipment - yeah, this project almost had me pulling the trigger on a welder. Almost.
Lack of time - most importantly. I work a lot of hours and have two small children whom I pamper like no tomorrow. $150 DYI or $250 to have somebody else to do it? That's a no-brainer. Fun project but I have lots of fun projects on the list. It'd take more that $100 of my time (and I work cheap!).

4Hummer ~ I guess I never knew that a simple bumper such as yours would still cost $150. I wish I had the resources to make my own bumpers, sliders, and skidplates. I wouldn't know where to begin ... lol.

Larry can do it... he has all the equipment to bend the tubing but the materials are where it gets pricey. Plus HREW and DOM tubing can only be purchased around here in 20ft sections I believe.

The guys that have it installed what have you done with your exhaust. I'm thinking about maybe cutting a small hole in the body and having the tailpipe exit there in the middle of the bumper.

finaly ordered one
after taxes i finaly had enough $$$$ to order a rear bumper for my runner...went with marlin's....called up...they checked thier stock, had none, but siad to call back next week. they said it would be done next week and i can call up and give them my pay info.
NOW I CAN'T WAIT...I THINK I'LL GO CRAZY WAITING....

Cootees - Can you give me Larry's number so I could call and talk with him please? I wouldn'tcut a hole in the body for the exhaust unles you are going to put some kind of heat sheild around it to keep from heating up and bubbling your paint. Why not just cut it off a little and leave it? Maybe throw a turndown or something if necessary. You've seen mine right?
Looking at the Marlin compared to the CBI I'm goiing CBI all the way. They look sturdier and more form fitted to each vehicle. Plus, they have some really nice sliders that are coming my way as well.

I can see how it can make a difference ... $100 is a pair of sliders from trail-gear to go along with your rear bumper. I guess Marlin can sell them for less because they make them in large quantities at a time.
