ignitor "compatibility"
OK, I'll start with what I know here. First off, the 4 wire Igniters are apparently obsolete here in canada. They've been superceded by the newer style 5 wire ones. Kind of leaves me up a creek for the igniter I need for my runner. Now from my own experience these two igniters are almost identical internally save for the fifth wire that outputs voltage to the coil. If you remove the covers of the igniter, one is just mounted backwards inside (soldered connectors are reversed), and there is an extra wire that goes to the connector rather than a ring terminal. My question is, can the newer style be adapted without putting in a new engine harness? One would think that with all the similarities they should be compatible. I know the newer style needs an IGF and IGT signal from the computer. Is this the same with the older one, or do I need to run wires straight from the computer to do it? Does anyone have an 89 3vze wiring diagram that they could look at for me and let me know the wire colors and what they connect to in the vehicle? Thanks in advance guys! I appreciate the help, I'm starting to get really frustrated with this one!
