.... Never had a problem once it warmed back up. '93 22rethen my '88 4runner had full synthetic fluids, 5w30 engine oil. sat a week in -60 to -50 temps without being plugged in. Started at -30F without being plugged in like nothing was wrong......

Jesus man, stop being so cruel to your trucks!
This may get a laugh from you, back in 1989 I was in Orlando during the winter visiting family and there was some freak snowstorm. Most people down there don't put antifreeze coolant in, just water or equivalent. It didn't get that much below freezing during said storm, but it didn't matter, most people woke up to popped freeze plugs/cracked blocks/etc. My uncle had to replace the engines in all his construction equipment, and his vette.
Never saw so many broken cars outside of a junk yard.

. I was just..erm...testing the limits. 
Seems like even though they live in a hot climate, they would still use anti-freeze, considering anti-freeze does two things. Lowers the point at which water freezes and increases the temp at which is boils. Must have been an '80s thing, eh?

Actually, i got up periodically during the night to warm up my truck...
So i wasn't that cruel lol.
And it was a legitimate reason to get out of the house at 2AM..
Driving a COLD Carbed 22R blows.

Eh, right now my carb is giving me a little trouble, takes a minute or two to get started after sitting for the better part of a week (I only get to see my truck on weekends, live in a city and work in a different one during the week, my farm is in the middle of nowhere 2 hours drive away.), care of some gunk that the carb cleaner hasn't completely taken care of. However, I do find that if it's been started up within the past day that isn't so much of a problem and it readily starts. I figure I'll just deal with it for now and when I rebuild the engine next summer I'll take care of the carb then.

Bah..
I need to do a valve adjustment, and dip my carb in some cleaner lol.
Thing still starts and runs cold. Before winter hits, i'm going to go through my entire engine bay and clean the whole thing up..

well striped it down and found the problem, ice was in every nook and cranny. I got me a battery warmer and all i gotta say is mmmm. I got frost bit on my face and i still cannot feel my fingers, i want heated tools.

indeed, in fairbanks there are no to very few women. On about tools my hands were stuck to them and i couldnt get them off so i lost some skin...
