Has anyone used a lumber rack on 1st Gen?

I was thinking, could a lumber rack made to fit over shells work on a 1st gen runner? Has anyone heard of this being done? Only thing I see that may not work is getting the front seal to seal, and are the side walls strong enough?

I used a bike rack from Thule and yakma will work, it worked great.

I could carry a 16ft and 20ft board with no problems.
