Gas tank holes

My 1988 Toyt Truck 22R 2 Bbl carb has a couple tiny holes in the gas tank.

My first attempt at patching them up didnt work using Auto Parts Gas Tank repair patch kit. Now I tried again and waiting for it to dry a day later to see if it will work.

If it still leaks is there a way to weld or patch weld a Gas tank to stop my leaks? The 3 tiny holes are in one part of the tank and the patch I am trying covers about 3 square inches.

You can use bar soap as a temporary patch. Just take a bar and rub it hard against the holes and it will plug them for a while.

There are various patch systems available, but I have never had very good luck with them.

Welding on a used gas tank is a job that is best left to professionals. The tank must be dropped, purged, filled with something inert and then and only then can it be safely welded on.

Thanks,

I will take it to a pro but wanted to make sure that is possible to do on an old gas tank.

I assume I can get quotes from body shopes but wasnt sure if patching a gas tank was possible.

It can be done, but unless it's a custom application of some sort, don't be too surprised to find that it's more cost effective to scrap it and buy another one from a scrap yard.

My Permetex patch seems to have worked on the 3 small holes.

My last patch lasted about 5 years.

Anyone have any advise or knowledge on how long patches last on gas tanks? My tank has no rust visible from the outside.

I will also put rubber undercoating over the patch area.
