Extra cab rear heat mod
I have kicked around adding rear heat in the extra cab of my 89 pickup. Got a screaming deal on a 4 runner center console and blower motor. $7.56 at my local pick and pull. So today I started the project got a few pictures on my phone I'll try and post.
First off you have to acquire a console and blower motor (truck must have bucket seats) make sure to get all the brackets and screws/bolts. Start off by removing the stock console (4 bolts 10mm and 2 Philips screws) after the console is removed the carpet needs to be cut for the rear bracket and the coolant lines. Once the carpet is removed you will have to drill some holes. I went with a 1" 1/8th hole saw and marked on the floor where the coolant lines needed to pass threw the body.
Once the holes are drilled (3 layers to I threw) and the brackets are bolted down you can mount the blower motor. I cut the factory plug from the 4runner harness (3 wires) I'm not sure why it's 3 wire when the big wire green on mine was + the yellow was - I hooked the - to the bracket. The positive I soldered roughly 2' of 14ga wire to. The positive I hooked to key power threw a orange plug under the CD player in the dash.
Once power is hooked up and the motor working it's time to put the console on and screw down (4 Philips screws) and install the heater adjustment knob. Make sure to plug the high/low switch into the blower while installing the console. At this point your done in the cab.
Now your ready to run the lines from the blower to under the hood. You can run the 4runner stock hard lines or run new soft lines and install them into the current lines that go into your fire wall. (I haven't finished this install yet I'm unsure what lines I want to run). Once that's completed you or your passengers are ready to enjoy your rear heater.
I'll try and post pictures but it's pretty easy to do and a nice touch for your truck!
