Engbldr Street RV head
I'm looking into buying this head. Does anyone have one? Is it worth it?
Thanks, Trevor

I love mine. I got the 261 cam with the street rv. I plugged the EGR ports on the head and with the fresh complete bottom end, it's like a whole new truck.
I had initially planned on having my head redone, but in a moment of excitement I ordered the street rv head. Glad I did.

I think and BLEEDER can speak to this as well but if you do get the head get the 268 cam it makes all the difference in the world and runs into the higher rpm range then the 261 but with just about the same bottom end. I love my 268 it rolls my 35's down the road very nicely and I have yet to go above 4300 rpm I have almost the identical motor set up as BLEEDER even built just about the same time only his is 30 over my is 20 over he has the 261 cam and I have the 268 engnbldr cam

what's the difference between the 261 and the 268? Is it more low end torque with the 268?
What I'm trying to say is that I want more power off the line at low rpms's.

Thanks guys! Thats awesome Travis. Looks like your not selling your truck anymore
Anyway, I'll definitely have to look into this. It would be amazing to have more power!!!
Thanks, Trevor

268 gives you more top end for daily driver and oversize tires 261 more or sooner bottom end for torque lower and more for off road and towing PER TED AT ENGNBLDR

yeah I TRY to keep my RPMs lower than 3500 most of the time
the 261 pulls pretty good from around 1500 to about 4000-4250; anything after that is useless

i agree with Bleeder..lol
i have the stock head 261 cam and a header and my 3rd gear is A BEAST!!!! as well as my 1st and 2nd
but once i grab 4th it slacks off JUST A BIT..and my 5th gear wont hold 70mph anymore....i suspect my carb is getting worse..still haven't gotten it rebuilt...
i'll report back after i get the carb rebuilt and see how everything is then
o yea..and if i could do it all over again...i would definately go with the 268 cam...just because i'd rather have the extra kick at about 3000-4000..

psshh, 5th takes me to 90 and beyond... more than once
takes a little while, but it'll get there
and downshifting to 4th gear to make passes between 50 and 70 are AWSOME!!!

I emailed Ted about the head and this was his response
The StreetRV head with 268C/Torkr combo tested at right around 10% added potential which is very noticeable normally. Our best reading was 143 H/P, note that was in controlled conditions on the dyno.
As far as economy, we saw no difference at all in our sustained throttle mileage testing on the dyno, driving style has an effect of course.

I don't really understand where everyone is coming from saying the 261 dies off after 4000rpm...mine seems to pull hard all the way to redline.
Here's some quotes from Ted himself:
"For a best mix of offroad and highway with EXTENDED RPM potential to redline, choose our 261C.
For normal highway/freeway use and towing, the 268C is my advice."
and
"The 261C we consider a more sporty type design, it has fast recovery from off idle and keeps a full powerband to redline. It can tend to chatter a bit at idle on some combinations.
The 268C is pretty smooth due to the closer actual duration. Ramp speed is a bit slower but it has more lift so it works well for a daily driver that sees a lot of highway and freeway use."
finally,
"I would think you would prefer our 261C. The 261C has a nice full powerband.
The 268C is designed to add MIDRANGE power, and it does well at low end but it is peaky in the 2000 to 4000 RPM range.
-Ted"
From all that, I understand that the 261 is the cam that will bring HP and torque all the way up to redline, and the 268 is the one that peaks in the 4000 RPM range and doesn't provide and more power/torque beyond that.
Either way, they are an improvement over stock. After putting 3000miles on my new rebuild, I'm actually wishing I had gone with the 268. I'd rather not have to rev up so high to get peak power.

Had to sign up sometime or another..... First post.
After over a month of reading this and other forums I went and ordered me a RV Street head, and master kit from engnbldr. Should be in Wed. or so. Went with the 268 cam because after all the reading just seems to be the best for my app. I have a 1985 2wd with the 22re in it. Hard to find posts about how this setup acts in a 2wd with a 3.58 rear, stock tire size, and a 5 speed. This is a truck that my Dad got new back in the day and I just got it a few years ago.
When the truck was new it had the power to chirp the tires in 5th gear. NO BS REALLY!!!! Now with over 250,000 and a slipping clutch (if pushed hard) is lucky to get some tire in 1st. Hope to be able to get 5th again after the build, and a new clutch. I was so young when it would do it before that I did not know how cool it was. Brother would rag on Dad's truck when it was just us two.
Have to say this truck has went through creeks, up hills, over deep mud at 90mph sideways, and has never missed a beat. After all the fun it has given me it is time for me to give back by way of the new RV head. So happy to know it is on the way!!!! Thanks ahead of time for the help I may need with this build. (Chevy guy) Have a good one.
