EGR Question

Is that the O2 sensor that screws into the EGR valve?

Nope...it's the EGR temperature sensor. Your O2 sensor (or sensors....I'm not sure if you have two) is on the exhaust before (and maybe after) the catalytic converter.

Do you not have a service manual?

Thanks. I have a FSM but it didn't say that in the EGR section, but I found another one for a 93 and it was there. I am missing that page.

Thanks

Oh....okay. You're welcome, then.

Having a problem with your vehicle? Need an O2 sensor or something?

I am at a loss. I am getting an EGR code and I have cleaned the EGR vacuum modulator filter, replace all of the vacuum lines and have replaced the EGR valve. What am I missing? I reset the computer by removing the negative terminal of the battery. Will this clear the code or do I need to pull the fuse? It was idling rough and since the EGR valve replace it is idiling a lot smoother.

Thanks
Shannon

I have the same problem. I have cleaned the valve and made sure it operates correctly. However I am still showing a code. Could it be the sensor in the EGR? Mine has always run perfectly though. Any ideas?? WE NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might be a little helpful if y'all posted exactly what code(s) you're getting.

Only one EGR code, 71, check your EGR temp sensor.

Best I could give you is to go thru these tests listed in FSM and check to make sure the Modulator is making it work , I have never needed to clean a EGR valve ........it was merely the diapram is good and it opened and closed or replace it .
The Modulator in the FSM controls it so it is possible the valve is ok and the vacumn switching is not working or as simple as a vacumn line broken or split .
Here is the link to the FSM , make sure you scroll down to the 3VZE section and then look at the Emissions EGR section and it will identify everything and give you test's for the modulator vacumn switch and the EGR , the diff. types of EGR are listed so you can find yours with the Temp sensor as mine doesn't have that but the one you have is in the online manual following :

Thanks all. Vacuum lines are all ok. I need to see if the vacuum is being supplied, or if it is the temp sensor. I think I'll start with the temp sensor seeing as the wires look a little worst for wear. Mud Hippy, your the bomb.

I missed some of this , yes pull the ECM Fuse to clear the codes (to my knowledge for 30 secs or more - and I didn't catch you had replaced everything but your sensor and in your case where the sensor is your switch for your EGR-ECM then it kinda has to be your sensor at this point but clear those codes and see if you get the code back first .

OK he is the stupid question. I have looked in the FSM in the electrical section with the fuse blocks and I can't find the ecm fuse. Where is it located?

I have a '91 but typically it is under the hood in the black box (where mine is) with your relays , I have seen some fuse panels on Yota's that have the ECM Fuse on them as well , I will have to start looking at the 95+ manual a bit more .

Yep. And for that code (I assume a code 71) I just got a resistor from radio shack and replaced the EGR temp sensor with it. EGR still functions fine and as far as the ECU is concerned the temp is in the proper range. No CEL for almost a year now. All for 2 bucks and some solder.

Yep thats the one

The resistor trick is nice , by the schematic that is all the Sensor does anyway is monitor Temp and tell the ECM the Temp is in range therefore not generating code/knowing EGR is working .
