...and it came back worse?
Took my rig to a local mechanic "specializing" in toyotas and Japanese vehicles (or so it says on the window). Needed my water pump and timing belt changed due to a slow coolant leak. Get a call from him after he gets it apart and says he'll have to replace the idler pulley as well. I give him the go ahead.
Get it back today, and this may just be a touch of paranoia, but after getting it warmed up, I took it for a spin. I hear a a quiet ticking. I figure that it was prolly there before and I'd never noticed it. I then put it in 4hi and when I stop at a light or sign, the quiet ticking that I heard is now quite the knocking. Take it out of 4hi, back to quiet ticking. I do this a few times and now it's a not-so-quiet-as-it-was-before-yet-not-as-loud-as-in-4hi knock in 2 wheel at idle.
My clutch pedal now also squeeks and clicks while being pushed in and let out. It did not do this before.
...on the lighter side (like, not black side... more like a dark charcoal side), the leak is a thing of the past.
ummm... I guess this post is part venting, part question (as in wtf has been done to my baby?).
Please help...

get the biggest, heaviest, most durable piece of steel you can find and go back to the shop. Where is the ticking coming from? Where do you hear all of the noises coming from? For the pump, belt, and pulley he wouldn't have been near the trans/clutch/driveshaft or anything else that I can think of

That's what I thought. I can only hear these noises from in the truck. I tried listening with my head in the engine bay but the fan was a bit too loud to hear...
Would diddling with the front end, could it have affected the clutch/trans/driveshaft indirectly, do you think?

If he messed with the clutch, trans, driveshaft, or any parts related to that then it would have to have been intentional since the timing belt/water pump/idler puller are all in front of the engine. The clutch, trans, driveshaft are all underneath the truck behind the engine. Going to have to get on the phone with the mechanic and figure that one out

Thanks man. I appreciate the response.
Good to know. I was unsure if maybe having the timing off or something could cause it, but I guess that's that!

well if the timing was off you'd know from the way your engine was running that it was off. The way it runs, power, noises, or any of a list of things it would do. Its usually very noticeable. Definitely call the shop up and get to the bottom of it though.
Glad to help, hopefully you can get it resolved quick and painless.
