Burning oil smell at startup, leak from where? 3.0

My truck stinks bad like burning oil when I start it up. Its especially bad after driving it somewhere, letting it sit for a few minutes while I go in, and then when I restart it to leave. It also stinks while stopped at a red light. I know there is oil leaking onto the manifold from under the valve cover gaskets.

My question is, will oil also leak out from the rear of the intake manifold down the back of the engine and onto the exhaust pipe? Or does it stay dry under the intake manifold?

Ive gotta fix this problem, the smell is bad enough that I smell like burning oil after I drive my truck. Not good.

Should I go with Toyota valve cover gaskets and intake gaskets or are the ITM from parts dinosaur a good buy?

Thanks,
David

there arnt any oil passages that are covered by the lower plenum so the valley stays dry. although there are seals on the rear of the cam safts that can leak down the back of the heads.

but those are generally replaced when you do the valve covers.

Are you talking about the plugs? I replaced the valve cover gaskets when I first bought the truck, and I took out the plugs and put the toyota black FIPG stuff around them. I also took off the rear bearing caps and resealed them.

I think I messed up by going with oreilly valve cover gaskets and I also didnt rub a little oil on them before installing. I think maybe because the seals were dry they couldnt move and so they didnt seat properly. They started leaking again within a few days.

Its good to know that the intake manifold cant be the source of the leak. I didnt want to pull it if I didnt have too.

I guess this time its Toyota gaskets and plugs. The torque specs on the cover bolts is very low right?

I think you are in the right area . Check the valve cover gasket and the half moon seals on front and back of valve cover.. That seems the most likely culprit.
