I decided to go into a tire warehouse today.. just to browse. Well I saw a used set of tires... so I bought them... 33's.... x 13.50.... TSL... Super Swampers. I wasn't thinking of going this big, but at $195 for the set of 4, I couldn't pass it up! The guy at the tire store mounted 1 tire for a test fit. They fit better than I was expecting, but are still going to rub on the inner fender. My question is.. Now what do I do? What are my options? Should I trim the inner fender? Install some BJ Spacers? Crank the torsion bars? And what about the rear? Do you guys think they are going to rub? What's the least costly thing I can do? 33's are definitely the biggest I will go... It was just too good of a deal. Here are some pics: Oh! and now what do I do about gearing? What is a happy medium between stock and running 33's? Some 4.88s? Thanks guys!.. All this started w/an $80 paint job...

4:88 with 33's is just a hair lower than stock gearing. Drives like stock, the speedometer is just a little off (mine is about 4mph fast at 60). Least costly thing to do to get 'em on there? Mount them up, and cut till they fit, or you've reduced the rubbing to a point where you can tolerate it, I've seen 35's on a stock IFS rig with that procedure.

Is that thing a V6 or 4cyl? Well, either way....jeez, big tires guy. I bet you'll have a hard time pushing them without regearing. Count on everyone saying "4.88's" are the way to go. And, of course, you'll have to lift it just to steer it. Did you realize that it's going to be harder on your steering components with those monster paws?

EDIT: I must sound like a jerk. Wasn't trying to rain on your parade. It really is a good deal, and would be hard for anyone with 4whl lust to pass on. Good find!

that is a great deal, i dont have any real advice, but i wanted to tell you congrats on the deal! i feel like a smart guy when i got my warn winch for such a good deal, i was proud of myself.

15x10 wheels, 4.88 gears or 5.29 if you have an automatic, and 3" lift +2 inch body lift will run these. Make sure the backspacing of the wheels is 4" or less.

It's a 22RE with a 5spd tranny. I was thinking 4.88's. I wouldn't be running the muds 24/7, but at least through winter and when wheeling. The rims they are going on are 15x8s..not sure about the back spacing, but w/the steering wheel cranked all the way, the bigger lugs would hit the inner fender. I'm sure w/some flex that will multiply though... 3" SL + 2"BL is the minimum to run these??? I thought we could run 33x10s stock on 15x7s.. It seems I shouldn't have to do that much to run 33x13s on a 15x8..

Its the width thats the problem, you will rub no matter what unless you can get the body away from the tire-specially once it flexes even a little.

To run 33x12.5's at full flex you need a 3" suspension lift really, the 2" body lift means the tires stay away from body as much as possible. You could run just the 2" body lift but at full stuff your screwed and the 3" suspension lift will run them, but in certain wheeling situations its better to have that body lift to prevent any possibility of any touching.

33x10.5 with no lift is possible for everyone, it may rub just a wee bit though.

Lol...no dude, not at all...matter of fact I was a bit nervous when I was paying for them, thinking..."what am I getting myself into???" haha... The "now what" is for: now what do I have to do to get these suckers on my truck without messing up those pretty fenders I just repaired and not spending a ton of more money...

I dunno, maybe give those torsion bars a good crank, and maybe a small body lift might be a good idea. I was just giving you crap because I can't do 33's without regearing...

Send them to me I got the lift to clear them and the gears so you won't have to worry about any rubbing issues and you can still run the 31's with out any fender mod's or regearin

dang bro. i can't leave you for a second. first the paint job, now this, a smaller version of monster truck or in your case monster runner. i fors ee a lift in your future and a regear. i am surprised those tires did not melt. you did say you bought them from a guy behind the tire store right. did he have any smokin deals on car stereos. just jerking your chain. nice buy, if they don't work i'll give ya 75 bucks and you ship to 71118, that way you won;t have to worry about the police finding them in your garage. ( big grin)

I have the same size of tire on my 87 runner and its one of the worst mods I ever made, mine are toyo open country (so even smaller lugs on the sides) and they rub every thing, I have a 2 inch body lift and have cut almost all metal out of my inner fenders and trimmed the outer fenders and tubbed the inners almost 2 more inches in and they still rub and I hate them. Also mine was 4 cyl with the auto and 4.30 gears and swapping to 5.29's still wouldnt have made it a good truck. I am dropping from 33/13.50/15 to 32/12.50/15 and stuffing a 3.4 into there to power the thing. I have tried two different backspacing rims with no luck, the width is just a killer on these first gens. My 89 pickup clears 33's great with the same amount of lift with no cutting or tubbing but the fenders are shaped different. These pics show the runner with no body lift and 33's and the ones with the flares are with the fenders cut out and 2 inch body lift.

You can fit them without rubbing while driving around town. There was a guy on Pirate that fit 38" tires on stock IFS.

If you do decide to modify the suspension:
I'd suggest trimming the inner fenders as much as possible.
I'd go with a ball joint spacer in the front and an add-a-leaf in the rear.
Body lifts are kind of a waste of money, IMO, and I hate them.
I had blocks on the back of my truck for a while, horrible ride, horrible everything really.

And to the guy who says he hated doing that and it was the worst mod he ever made. I have a 4" suspension lift and I run 33x12.50 tires on a 15x8 rim with stock 4.10 gears. I don't mind pushing them around town at all. I certainly don't win races and zip around, but I can keep up with traffic!

Oh, and so you don't mess up the body paint job. Here is how I would trim the fender:
The dotted line would go as far forward, or back, as you need to clear the tires. If the tires look like they will hit the outside of the body, which I don't think they will, then you could always trim just a bit off, but here's how I would start.

Go to 4crawlers site and buy a 3" body lift and 1.5" ball joint spacers and I'm sure you'll have plenty of room for them. I bet you could even do it with just the body lift alone.

I ran 32x11.50's on my truck with just a 3" bl and I couldn't have made them rub if I wanted to. If you only do the bl you won't have to worry about leveling the back.

Great deal on those. Hell, I would have bought them to use as spares at that price.

I would do the torsion-bar crank. and a 2inch block in the rear. and if that wasn't enough ball-joint spacers in the front with a 1.5 inch rear shackle. If you wanted to spend the doe I think 4wheel parts has the 4inch ifs lift for around 550.00
