Let us know if the Redline MT90 makes any difference. Even if the 7,000 mile MTF still has some life left in it, if anything it'll help flush the transmission out and it'll be cleaner for the new fluid.

How would I get the fluid into the filler hole? It's vertical & there's no way I can just pour it with a bottle.

?????

That's correct, you need a pump of some kind to make it easy. I bought mine for $15 at Schucks. Really nice to have around the shop for other uses as well.

Or you can just take the shifters out and fill it from the top

Thanks for the pics Pruney! I thought about doing it from the shifters, but is it possible to overfill the thing? What would happen if I put too much in?

if you fill from the shifters just take out the fill plug and fill the tranny till fluid comes out of the fill plug, thats how much is suppose to be in it anyway, my tranny fluid looked ok just dark, and when i drained my xfer case........it was cafe mocha lmao

do you have a 3vze or a 22re? If you've got the 4-banger (or swapped for a 4cyl transfer case) the t-case is gear driven and also particularly noisy. All the toyota transmissions make noise, and even occasionally grind when you pop it into reverse, as there is no reverse syncro. It's never a bad idea to change up the oil in your vehicle (with the exception of auto trans flushes, but thats another story) and having the tools (pump in particular comes to mind) can prove helpful at any time working in the 'ol garage.

if yours is a 90 4WD it will take 3.2 qts.
when I filled mine from the shifters I used a little more than that, and this was a few weeks ago and it's been running great

Cool, thanks guys. I've got the 22RE. But just out of curiosity, what would happen if you over filled it with MTF?

Well, you cant really overfill it. If you try to it'll just run out of the fill hole. The proper level is right at the bottom of the fill hole. On level ground, I over fill it a little bit, then wait until the fluid quits running out of the fill hole and reinstall the fill plug. I didn't use a pump when I did mine, I just took a funnel and attached a long hose to it and stuck the hose in the fill hole. I had to hold the funnel on the side of my truck next to the door.
