Well it would be kind of silly to do it to a brand new one don't you think?? IDK, I guess some people buy cars to drive and others buy them for the adventure. I am guessing most of us here are in that latter group.

exactly .. Southern States truck will rust with in 2 years up here .. and + dont forget the COST of driving down or flying !!! + driving it back up .. all takes time !
thing is also .. you'd be buying someone elses "junk" you have no idea of what it's been threw , or how well it's been maintained .. ohhhh!!! but it was drivin by my grandmother to the grocery store .. yeah right ! could you imagine going on a thousand mile adventure , and having nothing but problems and mechanical issues all the way home??????

i started to re-do an 88 chevy full size blazer one time that was rusty but dident look that bad on the outside and so meany things showed up that i dident expect that i eventualy cut the whle middle section on and re welded the very rear of the truck to just behind the doors. floor had rotted out and the body mounts came up threw the floor rusty suspention parts. metal fuel lines rusted threw and the list goes on and on after beating it offroad for a while i parted it out and scraped it, anymore id be scared to start somthing that looked like that. the results are amazing however. id just hate to thing of the rust problems that are going to show up in other spots that you have not yet worked on. untill every last pice has been replaced

having a truck you have mantained for 100-200 thoursand kms is almost priceless compared to buying a used truck that who knows what the p.o did to it....
i tend to never sell my toyota trucks i drive them or use the parts off them... i keep them clean and mostly just surface rust...
slacker keep up the good work.
and owning your own buisness is something to be very proud of not to mention the high quality of your work....
if i had half the knowledge you have i would love to save toyota trucks for aliving...
these trucks arnt gonna be rust free and on every block for ever!

But it is feasible. Flight down was about $400 to Dallas, $2900 for the truck, about $200 in gas to get it back and a new windshield for the safety (cracked on the way home, big rock). I have had it for almost 2 years now and there is still no rust on it. Under oiled the hell out of it right away and drive it year round. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again for another vehicle. Maybe I was lucky , I had a friend that was willing to come and meet me with a car dolly if needed. Even if that happened I would still have made the right decision. It really was that easy.
yeah .. I think you got real lucky .. I have heard so many HORROR stories , it would fry your pumpkin.
