94 22re swapped for 87 22re

The deal is that i've got a frankenstein truck, 87 4runner frame, 85 cab, 94 22re, 92 w56 tranny, and i threw a connecting rod! i've got a line on a 87 rebuilt 22re and was wondering if it's gonna be a big hassle to swap the motors? i've heard that the injectors might give me problems, but i'm thinking i should be able to use my 94 harness and everything should hook up except the fuel rail, so i'll just swap in my 94 fuelrail and injectors! Let me know what you guys think! Thanks

I did almost the opposite swap.... I put a '94 in my '88. I pretty much just used the '94 long block and swapped over the intake manifod, plenum, fuel rail with injectors, and accessories, and kept my '88 harness.

It's funny cause the frame of my truck is from an 87 runner and the cab from a 85 PU, but the engine is out of a 94 and i just broke a rod. The enigine i found for sale is out of a 87 and the guy was trying to put it in a 90 and couldn't get past the injectors! i think i'll do the same as you, just use the 87 block and swap my 94 manifold, fuel rail and injectors over. Thanks for the advice, but anyone else is welcome to add!

That's because the injectors changed in 1988. His '90 harness wouldn't work with the '87 injectors. If he would have used the whole fuel rail from his '90 he probably would have got it to work.

heh heh the injectors changed several times. BEST policy is just change the longblock, keep the intake and sensors intact.
