I'll go mechanical before I go marine ecu. Marine ecu is expensive even if you can find it used. Second to that would be the difference between how a throttle is used in a road application and how it is used in a boat. Boat is constant steady throttle and car is always modulated in small, increments so I'm not sure how it would work over a period of time. Also, the intercooler and turbo are cooled with fresh water so I am sure the perameters the ecu wants to see will be goofy with an air application.

Somehow I stopped getting updates from this thread...

Glad you've finally got one coming. No halfcut probably means mechanical right?

Any chance a forklift ecu would work? There has to be some person that wrecked a 1kd forklift somewhere in the US that someone wants to get rid of.

Forklift ECU wouldn't work because they are severally de-tuned.

I will probably go electrical IP, I am 99% sure i can get it running despite the immobilizer and complicated electricals.

Wow this thread is old and with no action.....

Well I did get an engine package imported from aussie land.

first I'll build an engine cradle to hold the engine and radiator so I can get it running and testing before I do some maintenance.

Great progress RBX!
Do you mind sharing where you got the engine from? I am impressed with all the extras such as airbox and indicator switches.

Most wreckers in Australia that specialize in Hilux will give you a quote for an engine package. I got lucky and found a personal add on gumtree(Craigslist of Australia), so I contacted the seller. I learned my lesson the first time trying to get a private seller to work with me, but the price was right and he seemed to be on the bubble once we started communicating.
The ad on gumtree was for just the engine and trans but he had the whole vehicle since it was a write off. So we renegotiate the price when I asked for every bit of car that touches the ecu and package it for shipment. The private seller is an amazing person, a real stand up guy.... I got very lucky.

1KD-FTV engine testing
Build a stand I can start the engine on. Still need to add the radiator support, ground leads and wire harness holder. I'm going to fully assemble the engine so I can diagnose it before install. Hopefully the lump will just need a freshen up on some gaskets and clean the egr mess.

and then it snowed
