86 4Runner steering wobble and vibration
I have an 86 4Runner, 22RE Auto 4x4, that has a wobble in the steering wheel, a vibration, and when I've had my friends in the pass. seat, they tell me it feels almost like a clunking under their feet on that side. Doesn't make any terrible noises or anything, and drives pretty normal aside from the vibration. I was thinking it might be cv's, but I don't think they spin with the hubs unlocked, perhaps wheel bearings? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Nope..
do the usual.
Rotate the tires and see if the vibration goes to the back.
Check the front end for play, tie rods, ball joints, idler arm, bearings. Replace what is loose.

does it do it more at certain speeds? While accelerating? or stronger when braking? My initial guesses based off that info assuming your tires are all good, properly inflated and alignment is good would be a loose idler arm or steering dampener. Again that is based on limited info.

It does it starting around 30, and the vibration just increases with vehicle speed. There is no feel in the brake pedal of anything odd, the vibration doesn't increase under braking, nor under acceleration, vibrates the same at any given speed if I'm accelerating past that speed, or going that speed. I'll rotate the tires tomorrow once I get home. Wont have a chance to do much tonight.

Took the front tires off today to rotate, and inspect the right side, good news is the wobble is a couple of minor flat spots, bad news is one of my front brake pistons is leaking, looks like a caliper rebuild is in my future now. Thanks for your help guys! Back shakes a bit now, but I think the rear will even the tread out pretty quick.

or in my case recently the wheel is bent. Moved it to the back and no vibs. Just a little road noise from the tire, till I can find a new wheel.
