271,000 KM. It's a 1990, but was built in '89 so it didn't qualify for headgaskets. As for as I know they've never been done. From what I hear the '87 through '89 built 3vz had asbestos in the gaskets which prevented them from breaking down. Then Toyota switched the gasket material because of health and enviromental concerns and in turn produced a weak gasket.

It's been very reliable for me, and fairly low maintance.

Mike.

Just turned over 124K miles.
Gaskets done @ 60K. All service intervals completed. Couple of small gaskets, CV boots, radiator, cam seals, 2 water pumps, PCV valve, ...hmmmm.
I'll be changeing the shocks and steering stabilizer nest week (still have the stock pieces on ) w/ Bilsteins and OME. Also, I think the EGR valve is bad so that might be done soon, too.

Used Castrol GTX 10w30 up until 95K then switched to Valvoline (wish I hadn't, knowing what I know now). Switched again to Mobil1 @ about 116K. Changed to Redline MT90 and 75w90 in the gears.

I get 16.5 mpg in the city and 21-22 on the freeway ( though it starts guzzling over 75 mph, maybe get 19-20 then ). Use Chevron unless absolutely desperate.

My timing belt was done at 92,000 miles. Only things that have broken on the truck: One alternator (bought reman Toyota replacement), the CD player, and the mast in the power antennae. Got the new antennae so that will be done this weekend. Everything else has been wear and tear: shocks, rear springs, steering stab., clutch. All in all very low maintenance cost which makes up for the fuel economy in my opinion. I used to get 22 until I went to bigger tires now I get about 19 on the highway.

Compared to eveybody else, mines a lemon. Headgasket went at around 80k, then again at around 120k. The AFM went out, but I consider that a fluke. The PS pump and water pump started to leak at 170k, but it is 10 years old now. I'm pushing 180k now, hopefully it'll last until I can buy a house so I'll have a garage and I can swap in a 3.4L.

I'm just wondering how one would determine if the AFM is operating correctly?

btw - thanks for the help with my idler arm post! I changed the whole thing out in about 2hrs with a flashlight....lol

233k miles

'90 auto v6

No head gasket work.

HS pump leaks, main seal leaks and driver's side valve cover leaks.

I just replaced the idler arm last week.

Pending my foot, my rig gets 15.8 at the absolute worst and 22.5 best with the current O2 sensor.

The truck has always had valvoline 10w30 in winter, 20w50 in summer, and fram oil filters. Oil was changed every 3k miles. At 200k we switched it over to Valvoline extended life or whatever it's called for engines over 75000 miles. I also am not using any oil filters from Fram anymore. I think I liked the supertech on the best so far. Any experiences with KN oil filters?

Contemplating making the switch to 5w30 mobile 1 synthetic right now, but I want to find the best oil filter first...

I started getting really bad city mileage, the dealer told me I needed a new AFM.

You removed the idler are with a flashlight?! Man, that must have been pretty hard to unscrew the nuts and bolts.

116k on my 1994 4wd Auto. Head gaskets were done at 60k. Looking forward to getting 170k or better.

Peace!

LOL - yeah that maglight is a BEAST!

I actually did use the maglight as a breaker bar for the 1/2" drive socket I was using at the time. My neighbor thought I was crazy....lol

121K on my 93. HG at 60k, timing belts at 50K and 100K. PS pump leaks a little, nothing else.

I'm not sure how many feet per gallon I get currently - can't be too many...

Well I'm glad to hear at least some of you got decent support.... Head gasket went at about 85K taking the short block with it (shaved the pistons). Currently over the 90K mark.

However, as seems to be contrary to everyone else's experience here, Toyota sucked miserably (both the stealership and the national division). Short story, I paid damn near $6K in repairs for a "certified used vehicle" bought from the dealership and had not driven it enough to make the first oil change before this happened (less than 3000miles since driven off the stealer's lot).

This isn't my first Toyota but it will very likely be my last.

mine has 134k on it...what is considered major engine work. i have had to replace alternators, water pumps and timing belts, along with radiator, maf(my fault), no head gasket repair, oil pan gasket leaks. are those considered 'major'

My 94 pickup has 188,400 miles on it. I have replaced the radiator and fan (3 times on the fan~2 crappy Hayden 16" electric fans and then the current Taurus fan) sparkplugs and wires, battery, and flushed the radiator a couple times. I bought mine at 79,000 miles and haven't gotten around to changing the timing belt yet. Other than the overheating problems that I have had my engine has been very reliable as Toyotas are well known for. My fingers are crossed with the hope that it stays that way.
