i had some engine paint in my garage so i painted my stock intake box the tube and teh piece of plastic that fits bhiend the head light all with about 3 to 4 coats and i painted the elbow that is between the airbox and the throttle body and after i drive the truck for a good 30 to 40 mins and i open the airbox it is noticeably cooler than it was before i painted it with the engine paint and i can tell a difference when i am driving around parking lots i have gotten a slight increase in MPG but no more than 2 mpg im getting about 20 to 21 and thats mix driving highway and city i keep my rpms down to about 2000 on take offs and that really helps alot too

Now none of this is has been on a dyno, but I have had some results in the few minor mods I have made.
I do notice a differance definately in throttle response after the ISR mod. I also noticed as stated b4 in this thread, I haven't had to down shift on traditional drop a gear hills, specifically the one coming up my street. Seemed alot better at highway speed, FELT like I gained a bit after the normal 2800 revs.

I actually noticed a bigger diferance though, after I changed cap, rotor, wires and plugs, and thoroughly cleaning the maf gate and innnards, USE APPROPRIATE SPRAY! as carb cleaner and harsher stuff can damage.

I still have my stock exhaust and cat. but replaced muffler(2" in and out flow master)

Like I said I have FELT as if I have realized a differance.
And it is better!
By the standards of the Blake dyno(lol), I normally reached the 55mph sign at about a little over 40. I am passing it now at almost 50 , Consistently.

I Also removed my EGR diaghram assembly and plugged it all.
Thes are all Noticable differances... definately sounds better.
I Have figured a way to place a turbo charger on here(3.0)
I am pretty sure anyway. let yall know as it happens.(the plumbing was the B***H!) but I think it will work!...

My two cents anyway.

Um check it out, on myth busters about 2 months ago they did a thing on drafting tractor trailers on the highway and how it improves gas mileage. From 35 feet out they averaged 2-5mpg better, this increased alot as the got closer to the point that they were 5 feet out and saw a 90% mpg increase. Now let me say this before you get all excited and decide to tie a rope onto the back of the nearest semi and catch a free ride. I have my class A CDL. I drive trucks for a living. We have a little handle inside called a trolley brake. This handle activates our trailer brakes without the trailer brake lights activating. If pulled correctly it will smoke the tires on the trailer. I refer to this as SCARING THE SH_T OUTTA THE FOUR WHEELERS. Its lots of fun, 90% of the drivers of big rigs agree with that. So please when you are doing this drafting be aware. We can stop/slow down without brake lights. We do this on a regular basis. You have been warned.

I drive commercially when I'm not flying and I hate when people climb my rear end...If I'm going to draft a rig I get on the cb and ask first... most of the time they're cool with it... you need to be careful and not get too close though for the reasons noted above, that and the cops don't like it either... also I usually arrange to work together with them... if they want to pass someone/thing I pull out first and play blocker for them...

sorry you all i know its a lil off topic from the thread, yeah we run 19 round here on the east coast. and as 70's as the lingo may sound might help you to talk like your on the old smokey and the bandit movies or convoy movie. Your right bout one thing, if you get on the cb and ask em they might let you do it. Get yourself a handle (nickname) for the radio too if you can. I go by "White Lightning".

IDK ajax around here talkin' like "convoy" or "smokey/bandit" is only going to get you a lot of ribbing lol... some 10 code is used but not much... I used to go by "Warlok"... [my old NTN bar trivia game handle]... how did we drift off topic?

VZN series is the v6 runner/truck the I4s are called the RN series...

for example a VZN131 is a v6 4runner a VZN110 is an extra cab v6truck

im pretty sure that drifting rigs is not the best thing to do with all the high RPMs that you have to make the 3VZ go thru... but i think drafting rigs would work...

idk if anyone has covered this yet, but ive found that running a narrower tire makes it MUCH easier on my motor... it doesnt have to work nearly as hard to get them spinning, and in my book, that is one of the best things for the life of the motor...

Sounds about right... lol
The VZ in VZN comes from the engine being a VZ series and the R in RN comes from the 4cyl being an R series motor.

ok thanx i purchased it and the electrical wiring diagram factory book and the complete factory repair manual all for 30bux, some places wanted upwards of 80 just for one!!! If anyone is going to be doing any mods on their vehicle and want one of these books shop around also I found a link for a free download on the entire factory manual for the 88 4runners. Only problem with this is that its 1468 pages long. Thats a lot of ink and paper. At the cost of printing it all you would end up more money invested in it then it cost new!

We actually have links here to several on-line FSMs covering most years but I agree it is sometimes easier to have the pages in front of you, and that was a sweet deal ajax...

Howdy...I am NEW to this GREAT SITE...Thanks to everyone for sharing your time learned knowledge and advise...!!!

I have a 1991 4Runner 3.0 3VZE with 280,000 miles which is getting tired...!!!
After Pulling the Heads Off & looking things over I am thinking of doing the Over-Size Valves, Performance Cams, and clean up the exhaust for better flow.

Can an yone point me in the right direction as far a Aftermarket Parts are concerned: What Cam(s) to get...???
Good source for Over-Sized Valve Heads...???
The Cams & Heads are my main concern at this time...!!!

I'm in Reno with access to some great desert and High Sierra Mountians back roads.
I'm mostly interested in Strong = Low to Mid Range Power.
I'm NOT into High-Speed Top-End Power.
Please Advise~~~>>>Many Thanks...!!!
Rex M.
