I'm lucky I never had to drive with the 3.slow....I did ride in my cousin's 4runner with the original motor many times, it was really underpowered.
I bought my grey 4runner just to swap the 3.4 into it.

good luck whenever you start on your swap.

teamshiftpoint,
Did you do the resistor mod on your dash to get the tach to work? If so, what did you do about cruise control, or do you have it hooked up?
Thanks

yes...resistor mod to make the stock tach work.

the cruise control is hooked up and running. using the 3.4 CC unit with the stock 90 steering wheel control buttons.

TeamShiftPoint, what is the amount and method of lift on the grey 4runner, and what are the tire and wheel sizes?

the grey 4runner has 2" body lift....the cheapy puck style body lifts.
the wheels came with the truck when i bought them, they are 15" x 8?

i'm running 31x1050x15
I plan on using 32x1150x15

not sure if going any bigger will cause rubbing.

TeamShiftPoint - How did you get the 3.0 gauge cluster to work with the 3.4 ECU? I haven't looked that indepth into the wiring, I am just worried about that part.

Do you have a web-site with all the swap information

I just have one question, the hood scoop on the red one ??? is the center scoop cut from the 99 hood ? I have been trying to find a damaged hood so I could cut out the scoop. I have also been thinking of swapping in a 3m-gte but I think the 3.4 would be more practical. Thanks for all the pic's

914runner and Flygtenstein,

I've been discussing with my cousin (TSP-MIKE) about your problems with sensors and tach. we think it might issues with your wiring.

914runner, who did the wiring on your swap? did you get your TACH to work, with that resistor mod?

Flygtenstein, ORS did your wiring right? did you try the resistor mod for your TACH yet? does it work?
is your oil gauge working?

I got an adapter harness from ORS. They have a wire for an external tach on their harnesses and I either have to wire that into my tach or figure out how to wire it up like it would be stock (so the reason my tach doesnt work right now is because there is no signal to it right now). I would assume Flygt's is wired the same way.

ORS did my whole swap. I have not done the tach yet, but that is contingent on having time and a place I can pull stuff apart.

My oil pressure gauge does and has always worked fine.

On a side note, it is no longer an option to use the new autos for the 3.4 swap. Marlin has finally realized there are some issues with leakage and is taking steps to remedy it. Hopefully things will come back on line in a couple months. Now it is only 5 spds or asking TSP to modify the stock auto.

Do you have a web-site with all the swap information or is it all in this post? I hope there is going to be a webpage deicated to 3.4 swaps... along with a FAQ page and resources...

If a guy does this for business, should he have time to share specifics with the guy on the net or the guy in his shop?

Everything works, Just need to wire it up!

No we do not have a site with all the info's on it. The wiring will be different for all the different year 4runners.
