3.0 code12 and 51 can't start my 89
I.m getting a code 12 which is my distributor. I'm also getting a code 51 which is my throttle position sensor. If my throttle position sensor was bad would that stop power getting to my coil and distributor. I've changed wires cap and rotor and coil. Still no spark at my coil.

I'd had some ignition problems and started a thread about it. The TPS wouldn't cause it to not fire, but would certainly cause running issues. The TPS can be unhooked and the vehicle will still run, just not as efficiently. But, you need to comb the ignition system to see why no spark. Maybe this thread will help.

I provided a link in the thread that goes over testing the coil and igniter and distributor. Good test....and not too complicated.
BTW, corrosion at the distributor pick up will definitely cause problems.

I had this problem on my 4Runner about 3 months ago. Code 12 indicates that one of the pickup coils in the distributor is not sending a signal the ECU can understand. Check the resistance and if it is above 180 ohms (IIRC), then that pickup coil is bad. I was unable to find replacement coils and had to replace the whole distributor.

When you get the new distributor, put some di-electric grease at the terminals and back of the connector to prevent corrosion again. Wouldn't hurt to do that elsewhere.
