i have a 92 2wd shorty. 22re and 5 speed. i am wondering what the gear ratio in the 2wd axles are. and in the 4wd axles. mine is axle over leaf, are the 4wds axle over or under? i know they are 6 lug, but thats fine...wheels wouldnt be an issue...i could find some. i actually love most the gm stock rims, so no probs. redrilled front hubs. whatever. anyways, would the width, brakelines, ebrake and driveshaft still hook up if i swapped? if its just wheels and welling some perches on im game. thanks.

1.The gear ratio in all the 2wd axles I've seen was 3.90. I don't know if they all are, but all the ones I've seen. 4wd axles are less likely to be 3.90, more commonly 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, or 4.88.

2.4wd axles are spring-over/axle-under.

3.I know the width is very close if not the same for some 4wd and 2wd axles.

4.The brake lines shouldn't be a problem.

5.The E-brake may be more tricky, but I bet you could find a way to make it work. It's evading me at present what the difference between the 2wd and 4wd is exactly, sorry. I'll look into it and get back to ya.

6.The 2wd driveshaft should match a 4wd 4cyl driveshaft bolt hole pattern, as opposed to the V6/Turbo pattern. All the ones I've seen did anyway.

Well, don't quote me on it, but yeah. Pretty sure I'm close to right on this one anyway.

Still a little unsure of the e-brake setup. They both got an e-brake handle with a cable attatched to the end. That when the handle is pulled actuates the e-brake(s) attached to the other end of the cable. Essentially the same setup for both, that much I'm sure of.

You know, I think I heard of somebody making bolt-on wheel hub adapters. So you could run 6 lugs on the front. They may have some sort of a spacer effect though. Maybe you'd need to get some spacers for the rear to match. I dunno...I'll see if I can find that site I heard mentioned.

cool. i noticed on the 07 silverados, the spare under the truck is a black painted 7 spoke 17" wheel and tire. which looks really cool. it would be cool to get 4 of those. i work in a body shop, so i see alot of odd stuff like that. and the 4wd handle setup seems the same on the dash end. dont know about down below.
