Ok, and you did try a different solenoid resistor and still nothing ?. Im running out of ideas, your 4Runner is doing the same thing mine did when it wouldn`t start, i had fuel and spark and tryed everything i could think of, and just for the hell of it i tryed the spare solenoid resistor i had and it started. When you try and start your truck can you hear the fuel pump running ?, if not then jump it at the test conector under the hood. have you checked the fuses behind the kick panel on the driver side, check the ignition fuse and efi fuse, make sure there good and not coroded. Do you have power to the dash lights and everything else ?.

If the ignitor or the coil go bad you won`t get any spark, why did you pull the engine, did you just rebuild it ?, did you replace the timming chain ?, if so did you get the timming maks lined up properly ?. Another thing to check is the distributor, make sure its not 180 degrees out of time.

yah i did the chain right....i took the cover off 3 times to check it....and as far as the distributer goes i had 180 degrees off and it was backfiring when it was just turning over so i changed it 180degress so as far as that goes i believe its right too?

If its back firing while your trying to start it, then it has to be something to do with the timming, go back and check everything again. It sounds like it wants to start but can`t because something is off (out of time).

If you have no compresion in #3 then that a big problem right there. The colored links on the timming chain don`t mean anything as far as i know. There is a timming mark on the cam gear and on the crank gear, they need to line up with each other on the intake stroke. If you have the chain installed and the crank and cam are out of time then that can cause the piston to hit the valves and cause major damage. So if you don`t have any compresion in #3 cylinder, its possible that - that is what happened.

If number 3 is the only one with compresion and very little at that, then your motor is toast, you either need a new one or you need to have the one you have rebuilt. How many miles are one the engine ?.

But if you have no compression in any of the cylinders then something major has happened to the engine, and like i said before, if you put the timming chain on wrong and the pistons came up and hit the valves then you have major problems. You need to pull the head and check for valve and piston damage.
