The problem is every one's view point is right in the tread(including ways to differentiate left and right). I have torqued the head down on a fresh gasket, with fresh head bolts. I do not want to pull the head off. This is not the first head gasket or timing chain that I have done. I just skrewed up and due to time constraits I want the truck on the road. I have done a timing chain before without pulling the head. Since it is a newer tchain set I feel Ok with putting it back together and running it. I was just pissed earlier about two tabs on the guide being broken off and just needed to vent my concerns. I am going to bolt it up, put the key ignition and drive it until I have a weekend to replace the guide. Thanks everyone

in the U.S.A., and in particular a California vehicle, or for that matter any 'left hand drive' vehicle, the 'passenger side' (when viewed from the driver's seat) is on the right side of the truck... and that side of the 22re engine happens to play host to the chain tensioner.
so that would be the 'right' side of the engine when viewed from the driver's seat of a left hand dive vehicle, or the left of the engine when viewed from the front of the truck (looking towards the rear).
So...?
